The truth of the matter is that there are two factions of Imo NUJ with different executive officers and membership after all efforts to settle lingering crises by the NUJ National President Chief ISIGUZO failed.
This has also affected its operations and activities in the state.
The National President approved imo NUJ is that of Akaraonye led group as authenticated by law while that of the caretaker committee was cancelled and warned to desist from further operation pending the judgement of the court.
However, the caretaker has continued to assume eminence over the constituted NUJ as approved by the national body.
Same issue is affecting the female bloc, IMO NAWOJ that brought on board Dorathy NNAJI and Barrister Vivian Otto as factional Chairmen.
Meanwhile a press release signed by the SECRETARY of the IMO NUJ caretaker committee Austin Okoro reads as thus:
SUBJECT: SHIFTING OF COMMISSIONING OF IMO NUJ MODERN CONFERENCE HALL, CYBER CAFE CENTRE
Due to the ongoing renovation of the Imo NUJ modern conference Hall that is yet to be completed, the Imo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has shifted the date of commissioning of two of it’s facilities slated Friday, 17th of September, 2021 to next week.
The Caretaker Committee is poised to bringing back the union to its former glory hence needs to put finishing touches to the renovation of the facilities to a required standard.
We regret all inconveniences that this postponement may cause our guests, members and general public. The next date will be communicated after Union’s emergency Congress on Sunday, September 19,2021.
