- Imo Police Pays ₦26.4m to Families of 5 CP Bosso presents 52 cheques under police life assurance scheme

OWERRI, IMO STATE — Families of 52 police officers who died in active service in Imo State have received cheques totaling ₦26,428,898 under the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance/Group Personnel Accident Scheme.
The cheques were presented on Friday, September 11, 2026, by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu Rilwan, at the Command headquarters in Owerri.
The scheme provides financial assistance to families of police personnel who die in the course of service, offering support to dependants left behind by fallen officers.
The 52 payments amount to an average of about ₦508,248 per beneficiary, although individual entitlements may vary under the terms of the scheme.
While presenting the cheques, CP Bosso commiserated with the beneficiaries and paid tribute to the deceased officers for their service and sacrifice. He also reaffirmed the police commitment to the welfare of personnel and their families.
Among the beneficiaries were Mrs Okorie Felista, Mrs Gift Chidera Omini, Mrs Nwosu Stella Chidinma, Mrs Nkeiruka Okparada, Mrs Florence Offoegbu and Mrs Onyekwere Edith Ogochukwu.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Stella Nwosu Chidinma expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Imo Commissioner of Police, saying the assistance would provide meaningful support to the affected families.
The intervention comes as police personnel continue to face significant risks in the discharge of their duties, particularly in security operations against violent crime and other threats.
The Imo State Command said it remains committed to honouring officers who lost their lives in service and supporting their families through available welfare programmes.
