A few hours ago, the Imo state Transport Commissioner Barr. Rex Anunobi took a further step to move around the city with his team to access the level of decay on our roads which perhaps was caused by the indecent manners exhibited by motorists and park managers in Owerri metropolis.
Bar Rex however decried the activities of such parks which he said constitutes nuisance and impede free-flow of traffic in the capital city.
The Honourable commissioner has seriously swung to actions to MOVE AGAINST ILLEGAL PARKS and has VOWED TO RESTORE SANITY in the streets of Owerri Imo State.
Speaking to 9News Nigeria in Owerri, the Commissioner said he has initiated steps aimed at stopping illegal park activities in Owerri municipality.
Barr. Anunobi therefore ordered those loading at Assumpta Roundabout to move into Arugo Park while others operating at Mbaise Road/Fire Service Roundabout relocate to Mbaise Park with immediate effect.
The Commissioner who also visited Mbaise Park and Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICAPS) both located along Egbu Road, ordered the immediate release of Trycles impounded by Osita Nnataraonye led Taxi/Busimo Association and warned against such lawlessness hence the Association lacks powers to impound Tricycles also known as Keke for any reasons.
He also urged the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Comr. Ifechi Okorie to ensure immediate compliance by urgently directing members of the union to dismantle every illegal park in Owerri municipality.
The Commissioner also appealed to motorists and other road users to obey traffic rules and regulations, assuring that the menace of traffic congestion would be a thing of the past by the time the 3R Government of Senator Hope Uzodinma completes the ongoing inter-sections replacing the roundabouts in the capital city.
Meanwhile, his tour attracted reactions from motorists who expressed happiness for such a wonderful approach to make IMO roads free from vehicular traffic.
