IMSU Lecturer Suspended For Sla^pping Pregnant Student

Management of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, has suspended one of it’s lecturers, Dr. Desmond Izunwanne, of the Physiology Department, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, for allegedly sla^pping a female student reportedly pregnant, for wearing mufti to class instead of the recommended departmenal wear.

A viral video showed Izunwanne sla^pping the female student who informed him that she came to class from the hospital. He also asked her to kneel down as punishment.

Another viral video showed Dr. Izunwanne asking students to crawl on their knees. Reacting to the lecturer’s action which sparked reactions, the spokesperson of the institution, Ralph Njokuobi, in a statement condemned Izunwanne”s action which he described as “Barbaric and unbecoming”.

Njokuobi revealed that the management of IMSU at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday, May 2, approved the suspension of Dr. Desmond Izunwanne till further notice.

The statement added that a three-man disciplinary committee has been set-up to unravel the immediate and remote causes that led to his uncouthly behavior.
