The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Imo State Chapter wishes to felicitate with the Girl Child and all women on the celebration of the 2022 International Day of the Girl Child. There is no doubt, NAWOJ is championing the drive for the training and empowerment of the Girl-Child.

The Theme of this year’s celebration is ” Our time is now – our rights, our Future ” It is a day set aside to celebrate and educate the Girl Child on the importance of whom they are both in their respective families and the society at large.

Speaking with 9News Nigeria, Dorothy Nnaji Ph.D, Chairperson NAWOJ Imo State Chapter stated that this day is special as it offers an opportunity to draw attention to the importance of the Girl Child, a crucial segment of the world population and the incubators of the future generation and occupants of the world.

The importance of the Girl Child cannot be overemphasized and it therefore makes it imperative to realise that given a sense of protection, proper orientation, reduction of Gender Based Violence, Empowerment and education of the Girl Child, the world would achieve a benchmarking and nurturing of the quality of the future generation and successors of this present age.

NAWOJ is therefore at the vanguard with other associations and organisations to champion the course of Girl-Child development, protection and empowerment.

We therefore urge the government, corporate organisations, development partners and non-governmental organisations to firmly support initiatives and programs that will help in improving and developing the Girl Child for its consequential import to the development of humanity and fight against squalor and poverty.

The axiom “ Train a girl, and train a nation ” is apt and we felicitate with our precious gems, the girl child as they join the world to mark this day, 2022.

Recall that on December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child.

On the contrary, the embattled Vivian Otti led Imo NAWOJ group has disassociatetd themselves from the runnings and programs of Dorathy Nnaji’s faction pending futher clarifications and resolution against the continued war bedevilling the union.

This calls for prompt Intervention by the superior powers governing the union.
