9news Nigeria reports that Governor Wike’s handpicked successor is no other person than, Felix Amaechi Obuah or Feliz A. Obuah as he is famously addressed.
Felix Obuah is a Nigerian businessman, politician, and philanthropist who graduated from the University of Ibadan.
He is a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State. He comes from Omoku in Rivers State, Nigeria.
In 2013, he was elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State for the first time, and in 2016, he was re-elected for a second term.
Obuah graduated from the famous University of Ibadan with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. His diversified interests cover properties, real estate, hotels, resorts, oil, trading, and construction during the course of his 25-year professional career.
Obuah was the council chairman of Rivers State’s Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni local government area. He has also served as the national head of the Nigerian Landlords Association for Oil Mineral Producing Areas (OMPALAN).
Obuah was a regular fixture in the 2015 elections, demonstrating unshakable resolve in his efforts to achieve Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s election. He was named Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency in June 2015.
His fervent Christian father, Bethel Chukujindu Obuah, died in 2016 at the age of 85.
He is currently the sole administrator of the Rivers Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA; according to 9news Nigeria sources, Chief Felix Obuah is likely to succeed outgoing governor Nyesom Wike.
Obuah is known to be a close ally of the present governor, having worked with him since his days as Secretary to previous Governor Rotimi Amaechi, among other positions the current governor has held in the past.
During Obuah’s term as PDP chairman, the party is widely believed to have won over 90% of all elective positions in the 2015 and 2019 general elections, as well as local government elections.
Despite the fact that Wike had to choose between Obuah and Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, insiders within the cabinet have stated that the governor is comfortable with the former as his successor due to his long-term loyalty.
Danagogo, on the other hand, is a formidable contender for the governorship seat, owing to his extensive experience in Rivers politics and familiarity with the party’s structure in the state, but 9news Nigeria understands that Obuah is still the man to beat.
However, some dissident voices told 9news Nigeria that, while Governor Wike adores Obuah, he has yet to make a decision on his successor but strongly considers that the Ijaw riverine people had not tasted power in a long time since Rufus Ada George, an Okrika man, was governor.
