Umuoma Nekede Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government area of Nigeria have set the 14th day of August 2021 as Odu New Yam FESTIVAL.
In a release signed by the secretary-general of the central planning committee, Mr Kelechi Anah has maintained that the 2021 new yam festival will be top-notch.
Speaking further, the President General of Umuoma Nekede Autonomous community, PG Uche NWANERI pointed out the significance surrounding this year’s New Yam festival in the community.
Uche NWANERI stated that the new yam festival will wear a new look to showcase the cultural heritage of the Umuoma Nekede community having assured Ndi Umuoma at home and in the diaspora of the best service with his team.
The invitation card in this news carries a whole lot of information revealed to our invitees and well-wishers to grace the occasion.
9News Nigeria reports that the event is slated to hold on 14-08-2021 at the renowned Central School Nekede playground located along FEDPONEK/Nekede/ Ihiagwa road.
However, the Chairman of the occasion is DR. SIR FIDEL ONYENEKE, Former NUJ CHAIRMAN, Imo State.
Among other dignitaries are Rt. Hon KANAYO ONYEMAECHI (Egbe Owerri West), Prince Eze MADUMERE, (MFR) and CHIEF Sir H.C Mela, Omereoha Nma-1 of Nekede as chief Guests of Honour.
Also, High Chief Kennedy Zanders, CEO Zandersfm and PRESIDENT GENERAL Nekede Federated Union (NFU), Chief Engr. Emeka Udokporo, Chief Goddy Esom Obodo, Hon. Sir Lister Okpe (KSJI), Ebekuo Dike 1of Umuoma, Prince Henry Nkwopara and a lot more distinguished sons and daughters of Imo state are Special guests to the New yam festival holding in Umuoma Nekede.
Masters of the ceremony are MC Princely anchoring with MC IDAHOSA to sharpen the event and give it a colourful outlook.
There will be cultural display from the five towns of Umuoma Nekede including the Ogbangbada, Okorobo, Igba Ndi Eze, Agaba Onyeze, Ojionu, and others.
This is another huge assignment to the Umuoma Peoples ASSEMBLY UPA after their Inauguration and thanksgiving that took place a few months ago.
It is noteworthy that peace is restored and progress will follow suit having featured a crop of realistic Executives to sail the ship of governance in the community.
Recall that this principle of seedtime and harvest is what is being celebrated as Community harvest in many Communities worldwide and Nekede is taking their turn as skated for August 14th.
Furthermore, controversy bedevilling yam festival as a demonic event is a misnomer because biblically in the book of genesis 8:22 stated that ” While the earth remaineth seedtime and harvest and cold and heat and summer and winter and day and night shall not cease”
On this, therefore, Yam festival should not taken as a demonic event since the olden days rituals that followed its celebration are removed and replaced by interdenominational church service calling on God Almighty to take charge.
