In a commendatory gesture, IPAN (Igbos for Progressive and United Nationhood) has expressed appreciation for Governor Charles Soludo’s impactful initiatives aimed at elevating Awka, the capital city of Anambra State. These efforts include the implementation of proper waste management, the introduction of traffic control systems, and the ambitious dualization of roads. IPAN acknowledges the visible transformation, applauding the governor for reshaping Awka from what was colloquially referred to as a “glorified village” to a more dignified state capital.

However, in a nuanced message conveyed by Chief Lawrence Rapuluchukwu Onuzulike (Orimili N’Achalla), the National President of IPAN, the organization has raised concerns about the government’s approach to addressing the issue of roadside vendors. While acknowledging the need for organized urban planning, Chief Onuzulike highlighted the adverse consequences of task force members resorting to vandalism and the destruction of roadside kiosks. IPAN sees this as a counterproductive method that does not align with the broader vision of enhancing Awka.

Chief Onuzulike urged the government to reconsider its strategy, emphasizing the importance of exploring alternative means to address irregular roadside vending. He underscored the necessity of job creation and the provision of designated market areas for roadside vendors. IPAN’s stance reflects its commitment to championing the rights of citizens and acting as a bridge between the populace and the government.

In addition to these concerns, IPAN, under Chief Onuzulike’s leadership, has actively engaged in street-to-street sensitization programs. This outreach aims to educate citizens on the significance of collaborating with the government to realize the original masterplan for Awka and its environs. IPAN emphasizes the shared responsibility of citizens in contributing to the overall development of the state.

This reportage encapsulates IPAN’s dual role – appreciating positive strides while constructively addressing areas of concern – signifying its commitment to the holistic advancement of Anambra State.
