Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has asked the Nigerian police and other security agencies to release detained members unconditionally and officially revoke the wanted tag placed on others.

Ejiofor, who issued the ultimatum in a statement he personally signed and sent to newsmen on Wednesday in Abia, stressed that everyone has the right to self-determination.

9news Nigeria recalls that men of the Nigerian army penultimate week attacked some IPOB members who were on their way to Umuahia. It was learnt that soldiers burnt no fewer than 10 trucks with over 15 dead bodies lying on the Aba-Port Harcourt highway.

For declaring IPOB members wanted by the Abia State Police Command, many of them have fled to unknown destinations within and outside Nigeria for fear of their lives.

The Human Rights Lawyer described the experience of IPOB members as hell on earth and gross infringement on their human rights, and further demanded immediate justice for the victims.

He said, “The attention of the International Community, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights Organisation, United Nations, Amnesty International, Christian Community and all lovers of freedom has been drawn to the incident that occurred in Aba -Umuhia Expressway over a clash between IPOB members on transit who were subjected to inhumane treatment by the Nigerian military which resulted to the sudden death of some members and others badly injured.

“This callous behaviour by the Nigerian security outfit has been on the rise lately on IPOB members across the southeastern states of Nigeria.

“It is against this background that I call on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to check the activities of their overzealous personnel.

“IPOB is a non-violence group, a peaceful movement that is determined to achieve her sovereign state through a democratic means, for instance, referendum,” the statement read.

Ejiofor concluded by calling on all Biafrans— those within the country and those in exile— to remain resolute and assured them of freedom.
