Sayyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has been officially named Iran’s new Supreme Leader, succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was recently killed in US-Israeli strikes that escalated tension in the Middle East.
The appointment was confirmed by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for selecting the nation’s top authority.

Mojtaba, 56, is a trained Shia cleric with strong tie to Iran’s conservative political factions and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (RGC).
This marks the first father-to-son transfer of power in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, an unprecedented move in the county’s political history.
Experts says Mojtaba’s leadership could significantly shape Iran’s foreign policy and affect ongoing regional conflicts.

Global reaction have been swift. U.S President Donald Trump criticized the appointment, suggesting Washington should influence Iran’s leadership – a claim Tehran strongly rejects. Mojtaba Khamenei’s rise comes amid heightened instability in the Middle East, with Military operations and political uncertainty driving concern among international observers.
