Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has granted pardon to 12 convicted inmates as an act of goodwill.
The announcement was made in Dutse by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Bello Fanini, who confirmed that the pardon followed recommendations from the Jigawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy and was executed in accordance with constitutional provisions.
Those pardoned include: Ibrahim Adamu Isa, Saidu Umar, Adamu Musa, Habibu Musa, Yusuf Ahmed, Shaibu Adamu, Abdullahi Ya’u, Yahaya Jana’u, Abdul Hamisu, Garba Miko, Salisu Isa, and Aliya Ibrahim.
Barrister Fanini described the gesture as a demonstration of compassion and commitment to peace, reconciliation, and urged the beneficiaries to avoid future offenses and called on the public to support their smooth reintegration into society.
This act follows a tradition in Nigeria where leader grant clemency during major religious festivals to foster harmony and offer second chances to those who have served part of their sentences.
