Nigerian renowned writer and novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has lost his aged father, 9News Nigeria learnt.
According to report from 9News Nigeria correspondent in the Anambra state capital Awka, the writer’s father Professor James Nwoye Adichie died on Wednesday night.
A close source to the family revealed to 9News Nigeria reporter that the erudite academician’s health deteriorated and was admitted after he was admitted at the Chira Memorial Hospital in Awkuzu, Oyi local government area of Anambra state. He passed away on Wednesday night after he did not respond to medical attentions. He was 88.
The Emeritus Professor of Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) hailed from Abba, Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.
He was the first Nigerian Professor of Statistics and had celebrated his 88th birthday on March 1st 2020.
Adichie was a member of International Statistical Institute (ISI) since 1978 and member, Governing Council of (ISI) 1985-1987.
The member of Education Committee (ISI) 1987 became a Professor of Statistics in 1976.
He had six children with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie being the 5th child.
