In a significant move aimed at promoting inclusiveness, harmony, and equity among religious communities, the Kaduna State government has officially resumed its state-sponsored Christian pilgrimage programme after an 11-year break.
The restoration of initiative was announced during a 2025 orientation programme for 50 intending Christian pilgrims who will be supported by the state government to embark on spiritual journey to Israel and other holy sites.
Christian faithful across the state have warmly embraced the decision, describing it as “a strong statement of fairness, equity, and inclusive governance” .
Government officials highlighted the broader significance of the move.
Jimami Bako, Head of Service, commended Governor Uba Sani for restoring the performance, saying it reflects a leadership that values spiritual development alongside physical infrastructure and economic growth.
Ahmed Maiyaki, Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, noted that initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to justice and inclusiveness for all residents, regardless of religious affiliation. He encourages the pilgrims to pray for peace, unity, and sustained prosperity in Kaduna and Nigeria.
For many beneficiaries, the revival represents renewed hope and strengthened sense of belonging within the state, as well as a potential boost to interfaith relations. The pilgrimage scheme was last held in November 2014, when 567 pilgrims from Kaduna were sponsored by the state to visit to the Holy Land.
