Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, says the state is addressing the discrepancies discovered in the February salaries of civil servants in the state.
Ibrahim, who disclosed this while addressing reporters in Kano on Monday, reaffirmed the state`s commitment to sustaining the welfare of workers.
9News Nigeria reports that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano had set up a committee to probe salary deductions, underpayment, and non-payment affecting civil servants in the state.
He said that the committee constituted to investigate the discrepancies in the February salaries, has submitted its report, which is currently before the governor.
“The governor is closely working on the report to determine the next line of action.
“In order to prevent future occurrences, collaboration between ministries and agencies has been enhanced to ensure adequate payment of salaries,“he said.
The Secretary revealed that the coordinating committee, headed by the State Head of Service Alhaji Abdullahi Musa and eight other members, has been established to oversee the payment of March salaries.
According to him, to ensure accuracy, salaries will be printed and submitted to ministries for scrutiny and verification by civil servants before the payment of March salaries.
He explained that civil servants, who have not received salaries for four months, will need to provide a valid reason for their absence from 2024 verification through their respective ministries and agencies to receive payment.
“The state government is committed to prudent and efficient salary payments and prioritising the welfare of its workers, “he said.
