A heartbreaking tragedy has struck a family in Kaduna State after a woman who was abducted by suspected armed bandits reportedly died in captivity, while her son, Joshua, was allegedly tortured to death after delivering ransom money in desperate attempt to secure her freedom.
Accordiing to reports from Bayan Dutse community in Narayi, Kaduna South Local Government Area, the woman was kidnapped in December 2025 when heavily armed bandits stormed the area and abducted her alongside others.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom amount that was beyond what the family could afford.
Despite months of efforts by relatives, friends, and community members to raise the required funds, the family was unable to meet the kidnappers’ initial demand within the stipulated time.
In a final attempt to save his mother’s life, her son, identified as Joshua, reportedly volunteered to deliver the money that had eventually been gathered. However, upon reaching the kidnappers’ hideout, he was allegedly informed that his mother had already died while in captivity.
Community sources further alleged that after collecting the ransom, the abductors refused to release joshua.instead, they reportedly held him to death.
The incident has left residents of Bayan Dutse and the wider Kaduna community in mourning, with many expressing outrage over the continued wave of kidnappings and violent attacks across part of the state.
Residents and community leaders have expressed deep grief over the incident, describing it as another painful reflection of the worsening insecurity and kidnapping crisis affecting parts of Kaduna State. They have renewed calls on security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident at the time of this report.
