The Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has matriculated 4,591 new students into its seven schools and 57 academic programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Rector, Prof. Salisu Usman, during institution’s 33rd matriculation ceremony on Thursday, highlighted the institution’s growth, with representation from 33 states, up from 26 in the previous session.

Usman praised Gov Ahmed Ododo’s commitment to the institution, citing recent security upgrades, including fencing and CCTV installation, and staff welfare initiatives.

He stressed that the governor’s support had created an excellent working environment, with improved infrastructure and security.

Usman added that the State Health Insurance Scheme and tax exemptions have brought relief to staff.

The rector said that the polytechnic under his leadership, had introduced 19 new programmes, expanded academic offerings by 33 per cent, and aligned with national needs.

The rector commended staff dedication and urged the new students to uphold academic integrity and discipline.

“We’ve seen growth in our national outlook, with representation from 33 States of the federation.

“Today, we welcome 4,591 students into seven Schools and 57 programmes.

“Our gender balance is encouraging, with 52 per cent male and 48 per cent female students, with the School of Management Studies recording the highest enrolment,” he said.

Usman emphasised that the polytechnic prioritised student-centred governance, transparency, and leadership development.

He urged the new students to seize opportunities and bring honour to their families and nation.

He added: “To the new students, congratulations! We’re committed to providing a student-centred environment with modern facilities.

“We’ll uphold discipline, transparency, and zero tolerance for social vices.

“Our philosophy is institutional renewal, focusing on academic stability, programme expansion, and security enhancement.

“We’ve introduced market-driven programmes and strengthened accreditation.

“Together, we’ll reposition Kogi State Polytechnic as a reference point for excellence in Nigeria”.
