Lady Fetes Victims of Ebonyi communal war

… As leaders seek govt’s intervention to end over 100 years war

A young business woman, Miss Joyce Igwe has donated food items worth thousands of naira to victims of the Abaomege versus Ishinkwo war in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Miss Igwe who hails from Abaomege community told newsmen that she has been worried over the plights of scores of victims killed and injured in the over hundred years communal war which has ravaged the two neighbouring communities in the Southern part of the State.

Addressing leaders of the community at the residence of the son of their late traditional ruler, Prince Augustine Ineke who received the items on behalf of the affected victims, Miss Igwe expressed deep sadness that the war has been allowed to fester since 1912 according to the records, urging leaders of both communities to seek lasting and amicable resolution to the protracted war.

“The love I have for my people motivated me to offer this little support to these victims because I have been worried about their conditions. Wherever there’s no peace, people don’t make progress. My people’s major source of livelihood which is farming has been affected by this war and the victims have suffered so much since, she lamented.

Miss Igwe who further regretted that the negative impacts of the war has been huge on the community, also noted that those who caused it since 1912 are no longer there to see and feel how it is ravaging the present generation who are the current victims

“I am not taking sides with my people, I am only asking that whatever should be done to pursue and achieve peace for both communities should be encouraged at this point. I urge the government of Ebonyi State to fully wade into this crisis and resolve it once and for all so our people can live their daily lives again in peace.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the victims, son of the Community’s late Traditional ruler, Prince Augustine Ineke appreciated the donor for the gesture.

“In a problem like this, development is also affected. The government on their part has been trying their best to resolve this crisis but we need them to seriously come to our rescue.

Ineke further pleaded that “The government should do something to save our people because they are the final arbiter. We are tired of war.

Reacting, a youth leader from the community, Mr. Uche Ogbuagu expressed joy over the donation.
