The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects after intercepting a truck allegedly carrying military camouflage uniforms and suspected illicit substances in the Surulere area of the state.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led to the recovery of 47 sacks containing camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illegal drugs.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed the development on Tuesday during a briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

He identified the arrested suspects as Chinedu David, 29; Ezeagwu Chukwuma, 38; and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45, adding that they were apprehended on Saturday night.

Tijani said the suspects were found with an unregistered MAN diesel truck allegedly used to transport the items.

The police boss explained that preliminary findings indicated that the military uniforms were being moved to the South-East, while investigations continued to determine their origin and destination.

He stated that detectives were working to uncover the ownership of the recovered items and identify other people connected to the operation.

The commissioner assured Lagos residents that the seizure did not pose an immediate danger to the state, noting that the consignment was intercepted while being transported out of Lagos.

He, however, expressed concern over the growing use of military uniforms by criminal elements, warning that such materials could be misused for unlawful activities.

A police source said the truck driver and his assistant were initially arrested before further suspects linked to the consignment were identified.

The source added that two other individuals later visited a police station in Surulere to claim the recovered items, leading to their arrest.

The police said investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the intercepted consignment.
