The governors of states in the Lake Chad Basin have endorsed the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, to chair their forum, Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum.
They made the endorsement during an engagement at the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum conference, which started on Wednesday and ended today Friday in Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri.
The baton of leadership for the forum was handed over to Governor Buni, by the outgoing chairman, Ildjima Abdraman, Governor of Hadjer Lamis Province, Chad Republic.
Buni, who accepts the chairmanship will serve the forum for two years.
In his acceptance speech, Buni expressed his delight on the confidence bestowed on him by governors of the eight member states, assuring to work closely with them and the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in steering the platform.
The governor also congratulated and thanked the outgoing chairman for her efforts and commitment in contributing to programs and projects for the development of the region.
He noted that himself and his government would give all the needed human and capital support to all developmental programs of Lake Chad Basin.
Buni equally thanked donors and other development partners in collaborating with the forum.
As the host of this year’s forum, Buni also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in ensuring the success of the program.
