Imo state government under the leadership of his Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma ordered for the shutdown of UBA, Access, First Bank and many others operating in the state for obeying IPOB Sit-at-Home order and sabotaging the rights of customers whose transactions were hampered.
9News Nigeria in Owerri reports that the sudden actions were executed on Tuesday 7-09-2021 by the officials of OCDA on the orders of the Imo Government.
9News Nigeria Imo State correspondent confirmed the sudden crowds of Bank customers left stranded at back premises as the officials of the Imo State Government shut all the banks that failed to open operations on Monday the same day set aside by IPOB to sit at home.
Some of the banks that were sealed by the state government were Access, Polaris, First Bank, Eco Bank, and United Bank for Africa.
We also sighted customized ribbons used to seal the various banks as the early hours of Tuesday
When contacted, some banks officials who pleaded anonymity told 9News Nigeria that the operatives of Owerri Capital Development Authority sealed the banks.
The reason was that the banks did not open to give the desired services to customers on the day states in the South East ordered for sit-at-home.
However, the sit-at-home order was said to have been cancelled by the government but the IPOB leadership continued to enforce such order on the South East STATES every Monday against the Government directives to appeal for the release of the IPOB leader Mazi NNAMDI KANU who is still in the DSS custody till date.
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra is facing trial at the Federal High court in Abuja by the Federal Government.
Our investigation reveals that the sit-at-home order by IPOB was cancelled by the government and any state that Insists on the orders of IPOB is doing that at its peril.
The shutdown has also increased the ill feelings of Imolites coupled with the bad state of roads and high fuel pump prices ravaging the state.
A call in the right order is to resolve with the petroleum independent marketers to commence the circulation of fuel and push the contractors handling Imo roads to move to work and complete the projects.
Also, the sit-at-home order should be lifted with immediate effect on agreement with the IPOB and Government to douse the tension and disaster such order has brought to the land.
At the time of this REPORT, the BANKS have RESUMED full operations and the state is wearing a sharp look in readiness to welcome MR PRESIDENT on a WORKING VISIT slated for THURSDAY 9-09-2021.
A thorough review by our investigation team led by Princely Onyenwe in Owerri reveals that the GM of OCDA Engineer Ikpamezie was not the cause of the shutdown as alleged rather the shutdown was on the orders of Imo state government on banks that refused to open for business on Monday.
