The Ekpeye Ethnic nationality under the aegis of Ekpeye Movement for Peace and Growth staged a peaceful demonstration on Saturday in Ahoada, marching in solidarity for their sons who had been arrested and incarcerated uunderundercharges.

The demonstration became pertinent following the recent arrest threat on one of their illustrious son, Rt Hon Edison Ehie, the former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and current Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government.

Since Rt Hon Edison Ehie one of the staunchloyalistst of the former Governor of Rivers state fell out of favor due to the crucial role he played in foiling the impeachment plot of Gov Fubara by the embattled Amaewhule-led-Assembly faction on the 30th of October 2023. He was marked out for intimidation by Mr Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT.

Apostle Jonathan Solomon the leader of the Ekpeye Movement for Peace and Growth while addressing the peaceful demonstrators said: “That the allegation on Rt Hon Edison Ehie and his loyalists as being the killers of late Divisional Police Officer in Ahoada, Late SP Bako Angbashim is baseless and politically motivatebecauseat killers of Bako have publicly testified to being guilty of the crime through viral videos and interrogations by Nigeria police, One would expect the Nigerian Police to intensify efforts in apprehending the other culprits that have been at large rather than dissipate energy in accusing a young man like Rt Hon Edison Ehie who is going about his political career diligently”.

” Rt. Hon Edison Ehie is a distinguished High Chief in Ekpeye land with a noble title as the Eze Ugboji Ekpeye (The King of the Youths). This revered title prohibits him from being associated with antisocial and criminal activities such as contemplating burning down the Rivers State Assembly Complex. The accusation that he masterminded the burning down of the Assembly is not only a malicious accusation but also a political gimmick by his political enemies to demonize, criminalize, and incarcerate him. We the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation shall resist this at all cost”, he added.

According to him the accusations on Rt. Hon Edison Ehie and the arrest and detention of his loyalists who are also Ekpeye sons are deliberate attempts by the FCT Minister to undermine the sociopolitical relevance of the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation in the politics of Rivers State. He vowed that the Ekpeye ethnic nation would stop at nothing to protect their own.
