A fashionista, Ruth Daniel, is changing the narrative of fashion in Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri, paving a new path in the fashion industry.

Also the CEO, Truth Empire, a fashion and design company, Miss Daniel initiated a fashion show, Maiduguri Royal Bounty Fashion Show, Decency In Fashion, in 2022, where fashion designers and brands showcase their work and talents.

The host said that the program is aimed at showcasing and promoting decency in fashion.

Now in it’s third edition, the fashion event, which took place at Pinnacle Hotel, Maiduguri on Saturday, has taken a new direction, carrying everyone along.

In an interview with this reporter at the program, the fashionista said the fashion event is an open platform for fashionistas like herself, to bring their craft to the public stage.

With the theme ‘Redefining Runways’ this year’s edition, she explained, is aimed to ensure and promote inclusiveness, an equal opportunity for people of different race, color, religion, culture, and people with disabilities among others.

‘We have also featured people with disability on the runway because we want everyone to get involved,” she noted.

Narrating some of her challenges on the program, she said “although fashion events are new to the town, we are witnessing progress now, we are getting more involvement from both the fashion designers and audience as well.”

She said that the program is getting more partners both within and outside the fashion industry.

At the event, several fashion brands showcaseed their work on the runway.

The program also featured artists performance by young aspiring musicians and other entertainment.

While thanking the sponsors and partners for ensuring the success of the program, Miss Daniel also called on other fashion designers in Maiduguri and and it’s environs to key into the program and be a part of an important step in developing the fashion industry in the state.

She noted that some of the partners, including, Mtn, Airtel, Multichoice, Al-Ansar Radio and Television, FRAD Foundation, Mercy Sarah foundation (MESAF), New Foundation for Displaced Persons (NFDP) and Young Prodigy (YPHO).

Others she said are; NTA, Septagon Security Service, Nkamson Charity Foundation (NCF), Kaph Kaph Printers, Emirate Dance Company and Harmony Haven Ushering Service and others.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Ene Audi, one of the guests said that fashion shows are important to especially new and aspiring fashion designers.

She said such events will not only give them the opportunity to market their products but will instigate and expose them to new ideas in the fashion enterprise.

The Fashion Designers/Brands

Baahiyan Collection, a fashion brand that is into designing of female clothing has showcased their designs on the runway.

According to an official of the brand, Fatima Suleiman, Baahiyan started about eight years ago and is specialized in designing and sewing female gowns.

On the fashion show, Fatima said their brand has participated in all three editions and it has impacted on their business.

“I think Ruth is doing a great job, and the outlook and theme of the program is really interesting,” she said.

Fatima also commended the idea on the title of the program, noting that it reflects the norms, culture and diversity of the environment.

“Decency in fashion, I think Maiduguri people would love that,” she noted.

Another fashion brand, MPK Collection has participated in the show.

MPK is specialized in designing and sewing of men clothing, suits, caps and uniforms.

In an interview, the MPK CEO, Sikari Gadzama, said however that they also make female cloths like gown and Buba.

A fashion designer with over 30 years experience, Mr. Gadzama noted that their brand also offers special services for special occasions and customized designs for celebrities, public figures, models and other services.

“I started tailoring and fashion designing in Niger State and later here in Maiduguri, and I also engaged in training of people on fashion and designing,” he added.

Faheemat Couture, another fashion brand that participated in the event has showered praises on the organizer.

Fatima Tahir Ahmed, the brand CEO said that althought this was the first time they are walking the runway, the event has cultivated a new sense of ideas and direction to their business.

She noted that Faheemat Couture is a five year old establishment and is into female designs.

Other services they provide, she said includes children wears.

“We are specialized in bridal outfits, casual wears as well as childrens wears,” she noted.

Sani Saidu, another participant and the owner, Sani Saidu Design said that this is not his first time of attending a fashion event, but “I have never experienced a more organized one like this one.”

Specializing in men clothing, Mr. Saidu said that he has over 15 years experience in fashion and design.

He said that the fashion show is a welcome idea and has open new doors and opportunities for their businesses.

“This event is an eyes opener for us in this town and I am calling on other local designers to partner and key into this program,” he said.

He added that with this new experience, he will make a better plan for subsequent fashion shows.

Elon Musk on Friday kicked Kanye West off Twitter “for incitement to violence” after the rapper posted a picture that appeared to show a swastika interlaced with a Star of David.The post came hours after an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, in which West sparked outrage by declaring his “love” of Nazis and admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Musk, who previously called himself a “free speech absolutist,” has repeatedly said he believes all content permitted by law should be allowed on Twitter, and sought to remake the social media organisation after he took control in October.

In an hours-long appearance on Infowars, the show fronted by Jones, West – now known as Ye – wore a black mask completely covering his face, as he ranted about sin, pornography, and the devil.

However, Jones addressed him as West as they spoke, Infowars billed the interview as being with West, and at one point, Jones took West’s cellphone and posted a tweet on his account that appeared in real-time.

More facts are now emerging on why the family insisted on keeping the corpse of Ifeanyi Adeleke, Davido’s son in the mortuary, 9news Nigeria reports.

Since the news of the passing of little Ifeanyi Adeleke surfaced in the wee hours of October 31, 2022, many people have been pained and inconsolable across board with the news dominating media space.

Ifeanyi, who turned three on October 20, drowned inside the pool in the Banana Island home of his father, David Adeleke according to mutiple reports.

A source close to the Adelekes said that when the Chef arrived to join them, the Nanny was with Ifeanyi. When the Nanny returned from taking a call, she couldn’t find Ifeanyi and believed he was with the Chef. However, the Chef, when questioned, said he had left Ifeanyi with her.

According to information obtained by 9news Nigeria, they reportedly began searching desperately for Ifeanyi at that juncture and did so for around 20 minutes before a security guard found his body in the pool. How the boy entered the water remains a mystery to everyone.

According to reports, Davido and Chioma learned the terrible news when they arrived home from their trip and have since remained inconsolable. “Davido ran mad. Davido and Chioma have been inconsolable ever since. “He practically stripped naked and attempted to run into the streets before he was restrained. The boy’s body was taken to the morgue as the family insists that an autopsy would be performed to ascertain the cause of death”, a source said.

Meanwhile, all friends, employees, and co-workers are said not to be permitted to go to Davido’s father’s house, where he and Chioma are grieving for now.

IGNORED PROPHECY

A family member has spoken up regarding a prophecy on Davido’s son, Ifeanyi who reportedly drowned in a swimming pool mishap.

9news Nigeria reports that Davido and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland were not in town when the ugly incident occurred but left their child Ifeanyi in the care of his nanny and other domestic staff.
According to a family member who broke the news to our source. Ifeanyi’s lifeless body was found after several minutes in the pool after he had drowned and they quickly moved him to Evacare hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Speaking about the tragic death of Ifeanyi Adeleke, Davido’s foster brother, Emeka Senator made a new revelation saying there was a revelation that the parents ignored.

Senator who also confirmed the death of Ifeanyi on his Instagram page was among the first to confirm the heartbreaking news alongside actress, Eniola Badmus who has been pummeled seriously by netizens for being the first to break the tragic news.

Taking to Instagram, Davido’s foster brother shared a photo of the deceased, as he recalled a prophecy about the tragic incident. He claimed that a revelation was given to the parents about his death, but they took it for granted. Emeka apologised to God for ignoring the warnings.

“The revelation was taken for granted. We are truly lost”. The singer’s first son passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022.

POLICE MAKES OFFICIAL STATEMENT

In his reaction, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that eight of the domestic staff of singer Davido have been brought in for questioning following the drowning of his son, Ifeanyi.

Hundeyin said eight of the domestic staff were brought in for questioning today November 1st. He said after investigation, those found not culpable in the unfortunate incident will be released while those found culpable will remain with the police for further investigation.

”They were brought in for questioning, not arrest. Anybody found not culpable will be released immediately while those found culpable will remain with us to further our investigation” he said.

In a bid to satisfy her desire and wish to represent African culture on her big day, Chioma Inyang set out to design an African wedding dress made with African prints fabric known as ‘Ankara’.

This was, to everyone’s dismay, sparking various kinds of reactions on social media. One Twitter user posted this comment: “You’re a true Queen Crown .. love it.”

Kim and Kanye are currently going through a divorce, with the reality star recently claiming that the past year has been a “huge cleanse”.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star opened up on Good Morning Vogue about the hardships she has faced over the past year.

“I think this year has been challenging for so many people but I also think that this year was a huge cleanse and just a huge opportunity for people to really be grateful for the simple things,” Kardashian said on Monday.

“That is a huge – I think awakening that some people had.”

Despite a tumultuous year characterised by the coronavirus pandemic and her divorce from Kanye West, Kardashian says that she looks back at 2020 “in a positive way”.

“I always try to look at things in a positive way,” she continued.

“Even though it has been such a challenging year, it’s a time to regenerate, get creative, spend so much time with family and just this time I’ve been able to spend with my children has been priceless. That part has been so beautiful.”

The Skims mogul filed for divorce from West after nearly seven years of marriage and several months of rumours throughout 2020.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the reality TV queen is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four kids, North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 1.

West, 43, is reportedly not objecting.

The couple had battled over their sprawling Hidden Hills property in their divorce, but Kim was allowed to keep the mansion as the main home for their children.

The source added: “Kim owns all the land around the house, but Kanye had bought the house himself, then they split the cost of the renovations. Kim fought to keep the place because it is their children’s home, and she won.

“Kanye of course has his ranch in Wyoming, but he has recently been in LA recording and working so he comes to visit the kids regularly. But she’s not shuttling the kids up to Wyoming and back.”

Plus, the source added, the division of their finances in the divorce was easy because of their prenup.

“It was an easy case of ‘You keep your money and I’ll keep mine’,” they saiid.

Elements of the split decision are expected to play out on the upcoming 20th and final season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which will premiere in Australia on Friday, March 19 at 11am.

  1. Traditional African culture though, had a more practical usage, where the many strings of beads around the bikini line were employed as an anchor to strap the menstrual cloths.

Well, West African women in particular are given waist beads as children to wear throughout life to help shape their figures. It remains a mystery how the beads shape them, but somehow, curvy African women attribute their voluptuous shape to the waist beads.

  1. They use beads to commemorate different phases of life including birth, puberty, pregnancy, marriage and death. They are also used when enstooling a Queen Mother/ King and installing a priest/ priestess. It is also used to measure the growth rate of children (girls). When the beads become too small around the waist, then the child is seen as growing.

According to African culture, some waist beads (especially red) are put on the waist and the legs of children who are bow-legged to straighten their legs.

  1. When they are on your waist, they shape your body by keeping the waist small, so the hips are more accentuated, the waist beads were traditionally used to show the difference between a male and a female.
  2. In modern times, however, gay men also put on waist beads to differentiate between the male and the female roles played in a homosexual relationship.
  3. Waist beads were/are more than fashion. Many women put them on to satisfy their boyfriends who loves to see them on her. During sexual intercourse, the rattling sound of the beads during sex urges many guys on. It has been said that in traditional times in Ghana women would use them to attract men; when the beads rattled it would evoke certain chemical reactions in men’s brain that would excite them sexually.

Beads on the waists of women are said to possess the power to attract and evoke deep sensual feelings for men. Most of men agree that waist beads make the waist of the ladies more attractive.

Well, besides its usefulness and mystical powers, beads in general and royalty are also closely linked in Africa. In Yoruba tradition, strands of beads are the emblems of the gods. Wearing a beaded crown with a veil is the quintessential sign of kingship. Also in Ghana, beads worn on the wrists and legs are signs of royalty or priesthood.

Beads are not just mere ornament for adornment, but with its mysteries, they are a symbol of the link between Africans and superstition.

We are talking about Jare Ijalana. According to MSN, back in 2018, the whole Ijalana family was shocked when photos of their 5, 7, and 9-year-old daughters became trending on the internet. Many were amazed by their naturally captivating beauty.

The family was even more surprised to find out that their 5-year-old daughter, Jare has been named by many news outlets as the ‘most beautiful girl in the world’ after a solo photo of her without her sisters made the rounds on social media.

Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo is currently in Lagos, Nigeria, and she visited Smooth FM this morning for an interview. While saying hello to the staff at the studio, Angelique spoke fluent Yoruba. Nigerian singer Asa also visited the studio and both women were happy to see each other. Angelique is seen drawing Asa in for a long hug before complimenting her footwear. They also spoke Yoruba to each other. Angelique Kidjo, who will be performing in Lagos, Nigeria, said it will be her first time performing in the state. “This is my first time in Lagos… My first time playing in Lagos. The last time I was here was in ’93. During her past life as a flight attendant, stylist Amy Richmond fell in love with accessories.

Packing scarfs, belts, hats and jewellery for trips allowed her to expand her modest travelling wardrobe.

“My love of accessories has definitely been influenced by travel and … wanting to mix up outfits in different ways.

“And to wear the wardrobe I had in my suitcase, which was obviously limited.”

Now the Gold Coast “accessory queen” dresses other people for a living, and says accessories are a minimal-effort and often affordable way to expand your wardrobe.

Brisbane stylist Anna Mabin regularly travels to regional areas to see clients.

She says no matter where you live, embellishments can “elevate your mood” and make you look like you’ve put in more effort than you actually have — without blowing the budget.

And you don’t need to access major retail outlets to accessorise. Visiting op shops or markets, or simply collecting trinkets during your travels, means anyone can have a selection that is budget-friendly.

Scarfs

“Travelling with a capsule wardrobe, I always had a scarf,” Amy says.

A scarf can be worn so many ways, she says, pointing to YouTube as a great place for tutorials.

“So many people think ‘it’s just a scarf’, but it’s coming back in a massive way, being worn as bandanas or in our hair. It doesn’t have to be draped around your neck,” she says.

Amy recommends having a few plain scarfs and some patterned options in different materials.

“Silk ones that are a smaller size can be worn around your neck or in your hair as an accessory.”

The same kind of scarf can also be tied on your cross-body bag to create interest in an otherwise basic outfit, Anna says.

And she recommends finding a long lightweight scarf that you love because it can be worn in both winter and summer.

Hair accessories

Hair accessories like clips and pins are huge right now, says Amy.

“Even the scrunchie,” she says.

“You can make a scrunchie for a dollar … and completely change your look.”

Anna says hair clips are great for dressy events. They can save you styling time or the cost of paying for a hairdresser if you are heading to a wedding, for example.

“There are a lot of pearl hair accessories at the moment, like hair clips and head bands.

“Although this isn’t an everyday look for me, I do appreciate them for special occasions, especially in winter teamed with rich velvet textures [of clothing items].”

Belts

Belts are an underrated accessory, according to Amy, but many people are scared to wear them since the fashion moved from wearing them on the hips to the waist.

“We are celebrating femininity and shape again, cinching in that waist. Celebrate the fact you have some curves.”

But equally, if you like your belts on your hips, then wear them there.

Amy’s favourite belts are those that are embellished with pearls and gold.

For winter, she likes to put a chunky belt over knits to dress up a casual look.

“Even over a [suit] jacket, a belt changes the look again.”

Hats

Becoming a hat-wearer is a win-win — they can look fantastic, but more importantly if you choose something with a brim they also help prevent sunburn and skin cancer.

While bucket hats are trending, Anna recommends sticking to a classic style for longevity.

“A straw hat for the summer months and a winter felt fedora for the cooler months” are her favourites.

“Finding a hat that’s right for you can be a little time consuming,” says Anna, “but when you find the [right] one it’s always a ‘When you know, you know’ moment.

“It’s important to choose a colour that works for your skin tone as it sits so close to your face.”

Sunglasses and spectacles

What’s better than one pair of sunnies or specs? Two, says Anna.

“One pair that’s a more classic style but then a fun, cheap and cheerful pair that are on trend,” she recommends.

“They’re great for drawing the attention away from the fact you’re not wearing eye make-up and people just think you’re being ‘extra’.”

And, like with hats, sunglasses can make being outdoors a little more comfortable, especially if you are short of sleep for any reason — from a night out and shift work, to sick animals or kids.

Shoes

Having a variety of shoes will help you change a look easily, says Anna.

For example, she says a white button-up shirt and black pants can be totally reinvented dependent on your footwear.

“A brogue on your feet and reading glasses can make you appear preppy, where if you ditch the glasses, put on an outrageous pair of earrings and high heels, you’re literally going from desk to date within minutes,” she says.

Amy says shoes are a great way to introduce prints you might be afraid of.

Animal print can be quite intimidating if you’re wearing a dress, but if you choose boots or a scarf in the same print, it’s a subtle but effective addition.

And if you own riding boots or work boots, don’t rule them out for wearing outside of the yard or work site.

Plenty of people who’ve never been near a horse or a crane have adopted them as part of their style.

Being inventive with what you’ve already got opens up a whole world of options.

Jewellery

Both Amy and Anna are big fans of earrings, which they say is an affordable way to change up a look.

“My favourite earrings at the moment are a pair of burnt orange resin and wood earrings from my favourite clothing boutique in a little country town called Roma,” says Anna.

“I try to buy earrings whenever I travel as they’re not heavy to travel with and they remind me of the trip I bought them on whenever I wear them.”

Earrings are a great way to try out some bold looks without it being too scary because they are quite a small item in the scheme of things — even when they are big ones.

Amy encourages her clients to be experimental and have fun. She suggests even trying a different earring on each ear.

You don’t have to stick to trends

For most of us, making over our wardrobe each season isn’t affordable, environmentally responsible or practical, but Amy says accessories can help you vary your look.

“You can have a seasonal trend without changing your whole wardrobe,” she says.

Amy says she finds people outside cities are particularly good at working with their existing wardrobes.

“My regional clients are less about trends and more about … pieces that match their lifestyle and fit them well,” says Anna.

“I like to mix and match some city brands in with regional finds [when I am working there].”

But she says, regardless of where you live, thinking about how new accessories will work with the clothes you have at home is important to making good buys.

“If you’re second-guessing an item … chances are your instincts are right and you’re about to make a questionable purchase.”

WASHINGTON / MINNEAPOLIS – Two years ago, Sara Duku received a telephone call that would change the way she saw herself both personally and professionally. 
 
An annual conference called South Sudan Unite, run by the Luol Deng Foundation, needed South Sudanese fashion designers to display their creations for the event’s fashion show. Organizers wanted to feature Duku’s clothing at the event, which was held in Dallas, Texas, in 2017. 

The now-22-year-old seamstress who “dabbled in sewing” hesitated. 

“They called me a fashion designer and I didn’t see myself as a fashion designer. I didn’t see myself as creative or in the art industry. Even when I first came, I didn’t know where I myself was heading,” said Duku at this year’s show, held recently in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

Nervousness

Duku, who is from South Sudan and didn’t even know how to cut clothing patterns two years ago, was filled with anxiety.

“Are they going to like me? Are they going to judge me?” she asked. 

Duku said she reluctantly accepted the invitation. She began designing her pieces, debuting them in 2017 at the fashion show in Texas.  
 
“That first fashion show really took me in the direction that I am in now. People believed in me enough to put this label on me and actually believed that I was good. I actually believed that I was good, too,” said Duku. 
 
She has since started Duku’s Boutique and Tailoring, a home-based startup in Dallas that serves the local South Sudanese diaspora. 
 
Her growth is emblematic of the vision behind South Sudan Unite of inspiring the diaspora to come together and build. 
 
That development has come amid challenges facing South Sudan, the world’s youngest country. 
 
The onset of conflict in December 2013 — stemming from a power struggle between President Salva Kiir and his then-deputy, Riek Machar — crippled South Sudan’s economy and led to the declaration of a famine in February 2017.

Amid the collapse of peace negotiations between South Sudan’s leaders and the spread of the conflict, the diaspora gathered in Washington for the first South Sudan Unite conference.  

Arek Deng is the chief executive officer of the Luol Deng Foundation, which was founded by her brother, two-time National Basketball Association All-Star Luol Deng. Arek Deng said the conference was aimed at highlighting the community’s strength and discussing issues, including the effect of conflict on South Sudanese, young and old.
 
“We started to realize that was happening amongst the older generation, but it started to affect the younger generation, where we were beginning to attack each other,” said Deng. 
 
Mistrust and division among South Sudanese at home and in the diaspora grew, social media became a battleground for angry South Sudanese and hate speechbecame the weapon of choice.
 
Those divisions were reflected in how South Sudan Unite was received. 
 
Arek Deng said the Luol Deng Foundation went ahead with plans to grow the event.

“We thought that the youth would be the driving force to make a change in how we view each other as South Sudanese. South Sudan Unite became a platform to celebrate all of our cultures, all of our differences and all of our similarities in a platform that is positive,” said Deng. South Sudan is home to dozens of ethnic groups. 

Duku credited the South Sudan Unite community for her growth as a young professional. 
 
“Even just looking at myself from the first year to here, I’m proud of myself. I have grown mentally, spiritually. Every area of my life is starting to find meaning,” she said. “The scars are there, but those scars are healing other people.”

Tanzanian authorities on Monday said they would not impose a ban on the use of artificial nails and eye lashes after the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) assessment revealed that they caused no human health problems.

Hussein Mwinyi, Minister of Defence and National Service, told parliament in the capital Dodoma that the government would not ban artificial nails and eye ashes after an assessment had found out that the fake nails were safe and suitable for human use.

Mwinyi, also a professional medical doctor said: “An assessment done by TFDA has shown that fake nails and eye ashes have no side effects to mankind.’’

In her question, the Member of Parliament on Special Seats, Rukia Ahmed, had wanted to know measures being taken by the government to enforce legal steps against the use of fake nails and eye lashes among women.

The decision by the government not to ban artificial nails and eye lashes came six months after lawmakers in Tanzania were banned by Speaker of the National Assembly Job Ndugai from entering parliament with fake nails and eye lashes.

Ndugai had imposed the ban after Deputy Minister for Health, Faustine Ndungulile, had raised concerns about the health risks posed by fake nails and eye lashes.

The speaker said the ban would also apply to visitors to parliament.

This is a controversial issue among Christian women especially those called believers or born-again christians. That is the issue of fashion; ranging from way of dressing, wearing of make-ups, wearing of wigs and different hair attachments to the wearing of ‘heavy’ jewelries.

These things are considered non-issues to the secular society, but among pentecostal christians, there have been scepticisms and reservations regarding the outward appearance of women.

Several respected and popular “men of God” have given their divergent says on how a christian woman should appear or dress.

However, in contrast to the mainstream assessment and viewpoints, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor E.A Adeboye has these to say:-

The elders have a say, “if children of the same mother enters into a room to talk and come out smiling, they have not told each other the truth.” Alright, so in the next 3 minutes, you might not be smiling as I am going to tell you the truth, because am your daddy. Strictly speaking I have searched the scripture, there is nowhere that I have found where it is written, if you wear make-up, you will go to hell or you will not make it to heaven, I can’t find it in the Bible. It is not to be found anywhere at all, but I have done my own research.

There are two places in the whole Bible where references were made to painting of face, only two places, and the two places are bad. One of the places talked about Jezebel. How many of you will name your daughter Jezebel? 2 Kings 9:30, the day Jezebel was going to die, she did make up properly, painted her face, dented her face with jewelries, but at the end of the day, dog ate her.

The second place is in Jeremiah 4:29-30 where God was speaking in anger to daughters of Zion, He says, “when I make up my mind to deal with you, you can paint your face as you like, it is not going to deliver you.” Read it, you have your Bible to read. Those are the only two places I found, and they are terrible references.

Now as far as am concerned, it is up to you to decide how you want to look, you want to make up, you want to paint yourself, you are at liberty.

If for any reason whatsoever God decides not to allow you to enter heaven, sorry o!!!

The point I’m making is this, nobody ever add sugar to honey. Have you seen anybody adding sugar to honey? Anytime you see a piece of furniture that is painted, wooden furniture that is painted, the wood is inferior. When the wood is ebony, nobody paints it, no no no. I think children of God should realise they are precious enough, by the special grace of God and by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. They are honey, they don’t need sugar.

Some people go about in the name of fashion wearing wigs. I’m not being judgemental at all. This is not law, there is no where in the Bible which says if you wear wigs, you can’t make it to heaven. But this hair that you are wearing, from whose head was it cut? Do you know who was the original owner of the hair? Do you know what kind of anointing is in that hair? It is put in the most important part of your body, the head!!! “Thou anointed my head.” Things are so bad now that some ladies comes for ordination with wigs on. I always asked them, which one do you want me to anoint, the wig or the head? I told you, you will not smile by the time I finished. I have not been legalistic, I have not said thou shall not wear wig. I’m only talking to my daughters, my own children.

I read something in the book of Revelation 7:1-3. Some angels were sent from heaven to deal with the inhabitants of the world, after the rapture, the Bible says, “I heard the Almighty God said, before you begin to deal with people, let me mark them, let me seal them on their forehead, so that we know those that the bullet should not hit.”

What we wear matters. Why do you think the army wear uniforms? It is so that they will not accidentally shoot their own members. Can God recognize you at a glance, that is, as a child of God? Some people say it does not matter, and that what is inside is what is important, I agree with the last part, but what is inside will show outside. it will show on the outside, it will show, don’t let anybody deceive you.

When I became General Overseer, I brought a group of teachers to come and teach in the Bible College and they began to teach series of things I did not bargain for. They were teaching that God is not interested in the outside, He is interested in the inside, this man (the G. O.) is legalistic, he is too strict. So I went to Oyingbo market to buy two oranges, one ripe and the other green all over. My Bible students were beginning to turn to rebels and God gave me wisdom, so I stood before the class and I said, which of this oranges will you take if I ask you to pick one? They all pointed at the yellow and ripe one, and I said why? They said because that one is going to be the sweeter one. How do you know when you have not seen the inside? They all said what is inside the orange portrays and shows what is reflecting outside. An orange is sweet from the appearance because its inside is sweet and vice versa to unripe oranges….

It was at this point I passed the real message to his people and the Holy Spirit gave them change of heart afterwards.

People of God, God cannot be mocked, you cannot begin to tell people that God only dwells in the heart of man, seeks the heart alone and not the facial appearance, It is A LIE FROM THE PIT OF HELL !!! …

You cannot sit on the fence, it either you are cold or hot… Say no to FASHION OF HELL … Why not be and remain the way God created you? Why are you adding to what God has created? In other words, you are telling God that, “God ooh, see you are senseless to have created me this way I am, I am going to recreate myself back with make ups.” (God forbid).

May you not be an enemy of God. Amen. “Let your dressing be in modest apparell, not of painting of face or using of gold, necklaces or earrings, but of pure heart, shamefacedness and modesty.”

Have you considered Jezebel in the Bible? She was a perfect example of the usage of all these things, and she made all these things of demonic value. May you not be among her descendants in Jesus mighty name. Let your watchword be ”WORLDLINESS FORBIDDEN.” Instead of the world copying good things from us (believers), we the believers are the one copying bad things from the world! Very shameful and pathetic!

Remember, “friendliness with the world equals to enmity with God.”

Nigeria’s Twitterati gushed on Wednesday over the enduring beauty of 86 year-old Grace Oyelude, first Miss Nigeria in 1957.

Sixty one years after winning the first beauty pageant by the Daily Times, the grey haired woman from Isanlu in Kogi state is still as delectable as ever.
And Twitterati noticed and kept retweeting her photographs. On Wednesday, the woman was the most discussed topic in Nigeria’s Twittersphere, second only to the unveiling of the logo for Nigeria Air, by aviation minister, Hadi Sirika.

U.S. based Professor Pius Adesanmi, her nephew, was credited with the photographs of the woman, who will be 87 on 16 November.
Chief Grace Oyelude

She was born in Kano in 1937 to James Adeleye Olude and Marthan Dantu.
She entered for Miss Nigeria photo contest, while she was working for the UAC in Kano. She made the final at the event staged at the Lagos Island Club.
After winning the contest, she travelled to England to study Nursing.

According to her: “I was living in Kano then. My brother saw the advertisement in the newspapers and advised me to go to Lagos for an interview to be selected as a Miss Nigeria contestant.

“He applied, and the result was that I was supposed to be in Lagos for the Miss Nigeria contest. I was working in the UAC then, and they also were also involved in the pageant. The following day, they got me on a plane to Lagos and that was it.”

Supermodel Maria Borges has tweeted that she is honoured to be the first African woman to feature on the cover of the American version of Elle magazine this century.

In an interview with Elle, the Angolan emphasised the importance of diversity in the fashion industry.

She said the industry was for everyone, regardless of race.

The previous African woman to appear on the magazine’s front cover was Sudanese model Alek Wek in 1997.

“It’s an honour to be on the cover of the American Elle, feeling beautiful and rocking my afro!” she said on Instagram.

‘All about inspiration’

Borges also won acclaim in 2015, when as a Victoria’s Secret lingerie model she became the first black woman to display her natural hair “in its Afro state” without being made up, Buzzfeed reported.

Ms Borges features as one of six swimsuit models in the magazine, appearing alongside Candice Huffine – one of the first plus-size women to be on the front page of one of the magazine’s special sections.

In a meteoric rise Ms Borges became the face of L’Oreal Paris in February. She issued a statement at the time pointing out “that a girl who started from the bottom can be an international beauty symbol and be living proof that our dreams are valid”.

She has been modelling since 2010 and has also appeared for Chanel, Balmain, and Givenchy.

Mrs Ayopo Adeyemi, a dermatologist has warned women against the use of heavy makeup, saying it aggravates skin problems.

The use of heavy makeup could lead to skin irritation, allergies and even skin cancer.

She said that excessive makeup was usually used by women to cover skin problems like pimples, allergies, patches, scars, dark circles, boils and wrinkles.

The expert, however, warned that this could aggravate the problems if care is not taken.

Adeyemi added that the harmful effects of makeup were not limited to skin related issues, but also varieties of other health challenges.

“Lipsticks, Kajal sticks and eye-shadows, for example, are known to contain lead, carcinogen and neurotoxin that can affect the nervous system adversely, leading to high blood-pressure, allergies, behavioural abnormalities and even decreased rates of fertility.”

She explained that some chemical preservatives used in many cosmetics were hazardous.

” Using too much product on your skin will eventually further the wrinkles, lines and spots you are attempting to conceal, and ultimately make you look older than you actually are,” she said.

The dermatologist said that it was imperative that makeup enthusiasts indulge in proper cleaning regime to remove all traces of chemicals from the skin.

“There are plenty of face washes, cleansers and scrubs available in the market to choose from.”

She advised women to use natural facial treatments like cucumber, tomatoes, honey, eggs instead of using unsafe products.

Ademiluyi said on Tuesday in Lagos that Nigerians designs were creative and laced with cultural finesse.

Ademiluyi is a UK based Nigerian fashion expert and entrepreneur.

“The fashion industry in Nigeria set the trend and everybody else follows. We are very bold; we are very vibrant our designers are very creative.

“When we started Africa Fashion Week, the majority of our designers came from Nigeria.

“Initially when we started, we started with 50 designers about 40 of them came from Nigeria.

“The reason why we were able to accommodate them was because their designs were out of this world, very innovative, very creative.

“The following year other designers from other countries copying what we have done. So, I think we set the trend when it comes to Africa fashion.

“We try to impact the knowledge that we have gained from hosting fashion weeks over the years unto the designers.

In the same vein, Aiki Odiawa, Managing Director of a Nigerian fashion brand, said that many African and Nigerian designers have benefitted immensely from the African Fashion Week.

“The designers have gained a lot. We have showcased over 800 up and coming African and Nigerian designers.

“Without our platform, a lot of them would not have the awareness, the recognition they have now.

“When we started in 2011 there wasn’t a platform that promoted African or Nigerian brands.

“We are the pioneers of the African Fashion Industry. The African Fashion industry, according to the Euro Monitor is worth $31 Billion now.

“A lot of big brands are now doing a flagship collection of African furniture and we’ve hired a lot of African designers to work with them so, it’s a new revolution of African fashion.’’

NAN reports that Africa Fashion Week Nigeria made its debut in 2014 with the aim of providing a platform to help promote Nigeria Brands through worldwide visibility.

An aspiring model has died after being hit by a train in Texas on what was her first photoshoot.

The family shared a photograph of the 19-year-old pregnant woman moments before the incident.

Authorities said Thompson was standing between two sets of tracks on Friday in Navasota when a BNSF Railway train approached.

She moved out of the way of the train but was apparently unaware that a Union Pacific train was coming in the opposite direction on the other tracks and was struck.

Hakamie Stevenson told The Eagle newspaper that her daughter, Fredzania Thompson, attended Blinn College in Bryan, Texas, but wanted to put her education on hold to begin modeling.

“That’s definitely what she wanted to do,” Ms Stevenson said. “It’s what she had started to do the day she was deceased.”

The person who was taking photos of Thompson was not hurt.

“We do not speculate any foul play at this time,” Justin Leeth, the police chief of Navasota Police Department told CNN.

Thompson’s fiance, Darnell Chatman, told The Eagle she had told him two weeks ago that she was pregnant.

She was a role-model to her five younger brothers and sisters, her mother said.

“She was very helpful to her siblings,” Ms Stevenson said. “She was very outgoing, and made sure that everything was taken care of with them. She was a leader.”

The family has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for Thompson ’s funeral arrangements.

She knew, of course, that designers who are black like her existed. She used to snap up Willi Smith at The Limited growing up in Detroit. She headed to New York with high hopes.

“When I first came to New York my eyes were really opened to the breadth of the industry, but I was looking for our place in it,” recalled Reese, who has dressed first lady Michelle Obama.

Reese, along with other noted designers of color, Jeffrey Banks and Laura Smalls among them, spoke at the opening Tuesday of a new exhibition, “Black Fashion Designers,” at The Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Running through May 16, the show offers a glimpse into exactly how impactful designers of color have been through the decades, including Reese, Banks and Smalls. Smalls has seen her dresses worn seven times by the departing Obama.

They also know the challenges of striving for beauty in design while attempting to break through in an industry still dominated by whites.

“Designers of color don’t get a lot of publicity and so many of the businesses are not sizable. It’s tough to get recognition,” Reese said, standing amid rows of mannequins spanning decades of diverse black voices in fashion.

Reese’s father provided initial startup money when she first went into business for herself.

“I had to go out and get loans. I did a lot of paper writing. A lot of business planning. I had to have a lot of assistance because I didn’t have business training,” she said. “That’s usually what a banker wants to see, or a financial person. It’s a kind of closed industry. And as difficult as it is for a person of color, you really have to rise through the ranks high enough to grab the attention of the people who are holding the purse strings.”

Smalls, who grew up in Queens, knew at 8 or 9 that she wanted to be a fashion designer. She went to the High School of Art and Design, followed by Parsons School of Design.

“When I graduated Parsons, being African-American, it was not easy for me to get a job. It was just not easy. I couldn’t fathom that I would be able to support myself with my own collection. They don’t say anything. I mean, you know. It’s just you don’t get the job. I could tell you a horrible story, but I won’t,” said Smalls, who worked in relative obscurity until 2012, when Obama first wore some of her pieces.

Banks, at 63 the oldest of the three, has focused on menswear over his decades in the business, adding home decor and childrenswear in more recent years selling on HSN.

“I was very lucky in that I met Ralph Lauren when I was 16. I started working for him when I was 17, three weeks out of high school and two months before I started college.”

Even so, it wasn’t easy.

“I remember when I was 10 years old and talking to a former nursery school teacher and telling her that I wanted to be a fashion designer and she said, ‘Well whoever heard of a black fashion designer,’ and she was black,” said Banks, who was raised in Washington, D.C.

“I was so angry, even at 10 years old, to think why would someone say something like that? Why should that be an impediment to anything? I think it made me even more determined to become a designer,” he said.

Banks looked to those who came before him, but his eye was on the beauty of their creations, not necessarily their skin color.

“Growing up, Stephen Burrows, when I was in high school, he was just starting to design and I thought his designs were extraordinary, and that was way before I knew he was black,” Banks said. “I just thought they were great looking clothes. At the end of the day that’s really what counts.”

Jacqueline Bouvier must have thought so, too. In 1953, she wore an ivory silk taffeta gown to marry the young Sen. John F. Kennedy. It was designed by Ann Lowe, already a noted dressmaker for high society patrons in New York.

Lowe was also the great-granddaughter of an enslaved woman and an Alabama plantation owner. She learned to sew at the knees of her mother and grandmother.

“Yet she embraced all of the beauty of European couture,” said Andre Leon Talley, the former editor-at-large for Vogue who remains a fashion pundit and served on the show’s advisory committee.

The exhibition is intended as a sampling, not an all-consuming account of black contributions to fashion, but it does offer a wide range, from a modest ivory wedding gown by Lowe (not Jackie’s) to a risque royal blue satin Playboy bunny uniform by Zelda Wynn Valdes.

Among others represented: Pyer Moss, Duro Olowu, Kevan Hall, Andre Walker, Lawrence Steele and Patrick Kelly.

And the legacy?

“The legacy is perseverance, and of struggling through many decades of culture,” Talley said. “Struggling black individualism. Struggling in a country that perhaps did not recognize black people as designers. You have a rainbow of success based on innate quality and innate technique. They had dreams, and they put their dreams into fashion.”

Angola’s Neurite Mendes on Saturday night in Calabar, emerged winner of the maiden Miss Africa 2016 to become the first “Miss Africa Climate Change Ambassador’’.

Miss South Africa, Refilwe Mthimunwe and Miss Cameroon, Jencey Anwifoge, were the first and second runner-ups respectively.

The maiden edition of the beauty pageant with the theme, “Green Economy, a tool for Sustainable Development’’ took place at the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC) in Cross River.

The new Miss Africa also won a brand new 2016 Ford Escape and a mouth watering $25,000-prize money.

The pageant, sponsored by the Cross River Government, is to produce what the organisers called a “true African Queen’’ who will campaign for issues concerning climate change.

Nollywood stars including Kate Henshaw, Juliet Ibrahim and Uti Nwachukwu were selected as host and judges while 30 beauty queens, representing 30 African countries including Nigeria, competed for the star prize.

On arrival, the Queens spent two nights at the Obudu Mountain Resort and participated in the second Dry Run for the 2016 Carnival Calabar.

The pageant is a new addition, which serves as a prelude and heralds the 32-day annual Calabar festival, flagging off every November 30.

The cost of attending the event included a table for 10 at N200,000, N10,000 for VIP ticket and N2,000 for regular ticket.
