Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information on Monday said it was unfair to say that #EndSARS protesters are being sponsored to destabilise the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Momoh, who is one of the national leaders of the All Progressives Congress(APC) also appealed to the federal government to listen to the demands of the youths.
He gave example of Omoyele Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow movement who was chased away by the #EndSARS protesters in Abuja as testament to the fact the protesters are not taking instructions from anyone to do what they are doing.
He said ” I don’t share that view that they are sponsored . Nobody told the youths to come out and protest. Look at a person like Omoyele Sowore who appeared in Abuja at the #EndSARS rally and wanted to join them”.
“However, they chased him away saying they are not looking for a leader or any politician in their midst. Nobody is paying the youths to do what they are doing. That is why we must listen to what they are saying and fulfill their demands”.
“We must not only listen to what they are saying but do all we can to attend to them before they become more violent. Nigeria must become a world power and there is nothing anybody can do about it”.
“This is the opportunity to attend to what the youths are saying. Many people have identified the difference between the poor and the rich. We must decongest space through restructuring”.
“When we have done this, economic deregulation is automatic. For the federation we have, there is a lot and lot of powers concentrated at the centre, and how do you resolve that you have unemployment all over, you have banditry, thousands of people who are qualified, there are no jobs for them because you have not decongested the political space”.
