Manchester City are preparing to rival Liverpool in battle to sign Marc Guehi, with the defender set to become a free agent next summer.
The England international has attracted strong Premier League interest thanks to his consistent performances and defensive maturity.
Guehi, 25, was on the brink of a £35 million switch for Liverpool on a deadline day, only for Crystal Palace to scrap the deal at the eleventh hour.
This has paved the way for other clubs to swooping in, as Guehi will be out of contract and available on a free transfer next summer.

The situation has piqued the interest of European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Juventus, all of whom are prepared to make a move for the Palace skipper.
However, allure of remaining in the Premier League is strong, with Liverpool planning to reignite their interest next summer, believing they have an upper hand in pursuit of Guehi.
But now, they face stiff competition from Manchester City, who are big fans of the elegant centre-back. It was evident during the last transfer window that Guehi had his heart set in either joining Liverpool or running down his contract to secure a free transfer next summer. As a result City didn’t pose a threat to Liverpool’s interest in the previous window.

However, this is likely to change next summer. There’s no chance of Guehi making a move in January, as he has reaffirmed his commitment to Palace for this season. That means he won’t be making a decision in his next club for a while just yet.
With both clubs looking to reinforce their backline, Guehi could become one of the most sought-after signing of the upcoming transfer window.
