Liverpool back to the top, Huddersfield Town suffer heartbreak

By Emmanuel Ebimoh

After two weeks of international break in football leagues across the world, the adrenaline pumping excitement of the English Premier League came back as the battle for top spot, top four finish, and relegation survival rages on. During the weekend, all eyes were at Anfield as Liverpool took on Tottenham Hotspurs in an all-important encounter for both sides.

The Reds of Liverpool were one point behind Manchester City before their game on Sunday, and desperately needed a win to go back to the top of the table and keep the title hopes alive, though City had a game in-hand. Tottenham, on the other hand, had all to play for. Their hopes of winning the title had already gone up in smoke. Sitting uncomfortably in 3rd position, they were just one point above Chelsea in 6th. It was a must-win game.

At the end of the day the tides flowed in favour of Liverpool who snatched the game in stoppage time thanks to a bizarre own goal by Toby Alderwiereld to end the game 2-1.

Meanwhile, bottom placed team, Huddersfield Town had their fate sealed during the weekend as they were beaten 2-0 away to Crystal Palace. The defeat confirms their relegation to the Championship next season with six games to go. From the battle for glory at the top of the table, to the battle for survival at the bottom, we are in for a grand finale of football spectacle in the remaining weeks in the EPL.

In the other results, Manchester United and Chelsea also ran away as 2-1 winners in their games against Watford and Cardiff City respectively. Tonight, Arsenal will get on the stage and hope to win when they slug it out against Newcastle at the Emirates stadium.
