Olympique Lyonnais of France has knocked out Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo out of the UEFA Champions in their second round knock-out game. Although Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to give the Italian giants a 2-1 victory on the night, the result wasn’t enough to see them through to the Quarter Finals of the competition.
Lyon went into the match with a one-goal advantage from the first leg which they won 1-0 and Juventus would need to win the second leg with two goals difference to qualify for the Quarter Finals. However, with just 12 minutes into the game, Lyon got a penalty and Memphis Depay was on hand to put the french team ahead, leaving Juventus with a mountain to climb.
Juventus were later awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute and Ronaldo was on hand to score the equalizer for his side. And then, in the 60th minute of the game, the Portuguese International unleashed a bullet shot outside the box that was too hot for the Lyon Goalkeeper to handle, giving Juventus the lead. But it was going to be too little at the end of the night as Lyon held on for a very memorable win against the Italian Champions. Juventus have not won the Champions League since 1996 and the wait for their next European trophy continues at least for another year.
Meanwhile, in the other game of the night, Manchester City defeated Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid 2-1 to also book their place in the Champions League Quarter Final. The English side will now play Lyon in the next round of matches in the competition.
