Following the jailbreak in Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri during the devastating flood in September, another prison escapee has been re-arrested in the state.
He was arrested by the police in Banki, an outskirts town in Borno neighboring Nigeria’s international border with Cameroon.
The re-arrested criminal, Auwalu Aminu escaped alongside his inmates as a result of the prison collapse by the recent flood.
The latest arrest is the third, as two other convicts were re-arrested earlier.
Mr. Aminu (aka Auwalu Kirkir), aged 24 was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri before he escaped.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the spokesman, Borno State Command of the Nigerian Police Force, said in a statement that Auwal was arrested after police surveillance received a credible tip-off that he was sighted in Banki Town.
‘The police patrol swiftly responded and apprehended the said Awalu Aminu,’ he said.
AS Daso said the three convicts were all profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.
‘The Command remains committed to ensuring safety and urges members of the public to report any suspicious activities or information regarding fugitives to the nearest police station or through the following channels: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293,’ Daso concluded.
