In response to the devastating flood that has over taken major parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State government has set up two relief camps for displaced persons in the city.
The camps are located at Bakassi and Dalori areas of the metropolis which have not been affected by the rising waters.
Many families across the city have been rendered homeless after houses and major residential areas got submerged in the water.
The camps were set up by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) as emergency shelter for victims of the flood.
According to the government, Bakassi camp will shelter about 10,000 families while the Dalori camp will host other victims, and would be managed by SEMA officials.
While the agency urges the affected people to take refuge in these camps, many individuals who have fled their homes do not have access to these areas due to road inaccessibility.
At the time of filling this report, families in their thousands continue to evacuate their homes to squat in buildings and communities on higher grounds.
