Majority Leader Imo State House of Assembly IMHA, Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi has harped on the immediate need to revamp the Nekede Songhai farms to enable the ministry produce massive food for the generality of Imolites.
This call came at the plenary of IMHA held Wednesday in support of the motion moved by Hon Ben Ozoemenam.
Hon Onyemaechi highlighted the fact that 10th Assembly IMHA is saddled with the Legislative responsibility to serve and protect Ndi Imo across various constituencies. He further stated emphatically the core mandate of the “Nekede Songhai Farm of 2004” has been defeated by the non functionality and non productivity of the agency.
While supporting the Ben Ozoemenam’s motion, Kanayo Onyemaechi hinted that there are some level of extortion and looting going on in the Shanghai Farm for years, alleging that NO MONEY is being remitted to the government from Songhai Farm where there is a permanent secretary, Director and a recently appointed commissioner saddled with the responsibility of stabilizing and promoting Shanghai Farm to cushion the effect of hunger in the state.
Noting that if the core mandate of Shanghai is achieved, the challenges of hunger will be drastically reduced.
Egbe stated that Shanghai Farm Nekede is expected to produce massive food in Imo state because of the establishment of rice farm, vegetables, crops, fishery and animal husbandry , all inclusive in the agency.
On the acclaimed 24 hectres of land allegedly taken, the Majority Leader advised Nekede land owners to confirm the actuality of the size of land and go for it. He made this revelation known x-raying his cordial relationship with Ndi Nekede , stating that IMHA will help the governor to sanitize illegal land grabbing in the state.
Hon Onyemaechi further charged the IMHA committee chairman of agriculture and Songhai farms to carry out a detailed investigation on Nekede Shanghai Farm and drag anybody taken government lands illegally to face the law and to serve as deterrent for others.
The Revamp of Nekede Songhai Farm is important and has to be followed up immediately, Egbe hinted.
