A 40-year-old man has been charged after allegedly stealing the purse of a woman with cerebral palsy in Melbourne’s CBD.
Police allege the woman was selling magazines on the corner of Swanston and Londsdale Streets last Monday when she was approached by a man and another woman.
The man began wiping the victim’s face and allegedly went through her bag at the same time and took her purse, putting it into his back pocket.
A man was arrested in East Melbourne yesterday and charged with theft and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
He is expected to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Investigators continue to search for the woman who was with the man at the time of the incident.
She is described as being of Aboriginal appearance and was wearing a hooded camouflage jacket, white t-shirt and beanie and carrying shopping bags.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
