Maradona: Dare, Gaiya Pay Tributes To Football Legend

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the  great football icon, Diego Maradona who passed away on Wednesday after suffering from cardiac arrest. Dare described the late football legend as a bundle of talents and a great asset to football development while he lived. 

Dare while condoling  with Maradona’s family, friends and professional colleagues described Diego as a cut above the rest in his football skills, exploits on the field of play and continued love for the game until his death. 

“Diego was a beauty to behold in the round leather game. He paved a formidable track for many footballers both retired and active with his dazzling skills and sense of creativity during his playing days”. 


“He was a phenomenal, a rare gem of the round leather game . Diego Armando Maradona will remain one of the greats. No doubt, football and the entire world of sports have lost one of its greatest resourceful and enigmatic players”. 


Also, a former chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Honourable Godfrey Ali Gaiya, described the late football icon as a player with a rare gift and who used his talents to conquer the world. The former federal lawmaker said Maradona has left his footprints in the sands of time and would be remembered for his great contribution to the world’s most loved sports.

“Maradona came, saw and conquered and has left his foot prints in the sands of time. History of football will be not be complete without mentioning the great contributions this great man made to the round leather game. He was a colossus and a giant of the game. Adieu Maradona,” Gaiya said.

Maradona passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 60. He captained Argentina to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and ended his international career with 91 caps and 34 goals.
