Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday defies the 24 hours curfew imposed by the Plateau state government to attack Kwahaslalek and surrounding communities where they killed no fewer than 30 persons.

9News Nigeria correspondent also gathered that family of five was burnt to death, while several homes were razed by the rampaging gunmen.

Although information was yet to be ascertained from official sources but resident of the affected commuinity, Shedrack Wudeama said the skirmish which happened at the Mangu town was a decoy to pave way for the attack on the community which is not far from the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Jakatai, Mangu Local Government Area.

He added that “What happened at Sabon-Gari and Mangu on Tuesday was just a distraction so that people’s attention will be shifted away from the villages”

“For the second time, my village, Kwahaslalek was attacked at about 12:30 leaving over 30 people mostly women and children killed as houses were burnt and some persons left with gunshots.

‘At about midnight, there was sporadic gunfire and the women ran to one compound for safety. Unfortunately, the terrorists went there and kill them while the men were keeping vigil outside the community.

“The victims were killed at a community leader’s house where they ran for refuge.

“The Mairana, Kinat and other communities in Mangu Halle District and those on the borders of Mangu and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas are deserted mow’, he said.

Another resident of the community who claimed anonimity said “This is too much for us to carry, government should provide ways to end this dastardly act by the terrorists as our mother’s, wives and children are being slaughtered in this community on daily basis by terrorists”, he said.

It could be recalled that Governor Caleb Mutfwang had earlier declared a 24 hours curfew on Mangu Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect on Tuesday.

This was contained in a statement signed by Gyang Bere the Director of Press and Public Affairs and made available to newsmen in Jos.

The statement reads that Governor Mutfwang took the decision after consultations with the relevant security agencies.

He stated that only persons on essential duties are allowed to move within the local government area until further notice.

He urged all citizens, especially residents of Mangu Local Government, to comply with the directive and assist the security personnel by providing reliable information to restore peace and order in the area.
