The Nigerian-born scientist Councillor, Ernest Ezeajughi @EEzeajughi was re-elected last year for another term as
the Mayor of Brent @mayorofbrent, London.
Cllr Ezeajughi was elected as the Brent‘s Mayor at the Council’s Annual Meeting. The event was attended by councillors from across the borough, as well as representatives from Brent’s voluntary and community organisations. Cllr Lia Colacicco, who represents Mapesbury ward, was also elected as Deputy Mayor.
Born in Nigeria, Anambra state, he studied Science at Nnamadi Azikiwe University, earning a Bachelor’s degree.
Following this, he worked briefly in the family business and has lived in Brent since moving to the UK in 2004.
After gaining a Master of Science at Kings College London, he has worked for several organisations including Public Health England and he currently works for the Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and also the Royal Mail.
He was elected councillor for the Stonebridge ward in May 2014 and was re-elected in May 2018.
Cllr Ezeajughi is married with four children.
In his speech after reelection, he said:
“It is an amazing privilege and honour to be appointed as Mayor of Brent and to serve this great borough that I have called home since 2004. I gained inspiration from my late Dad to get involved in local politics. In my Mayoral year I hope to be able to work with all of Brent’s rich and diverse communities. I look forward to raising money for my two amazing local charities for the year.”
