A yet-to-be-identified man has been detained by the UK police after he rushed up to Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin lying in state in Westminister Hall.
Mourners were this time pretty shocked when a man pushed a seven-year-old child in front of the procession queue and tried to touch the Royal Standard and Flag on the Queen’s coffin, 9News Nigeria learnt.
According to a report by SkyNews London, onlookers who spoke to news reporters, essentially, a woman called Tracy Holland who witnessed the incident said: someone just decided that they are going to push my seven-year-old niece out of the way, run up to the coffin, lift up the standard and try to do, I don’t know what, so this individual, this man, is now being detained for trying to lift the Royal Standard, the flag, off the coffin.
The lady who has queued for 15 hours said she and her niece would have to go back to the procession to be able to see the Queen’s coffin quietly as her niece is already traumatized.
The Metropolitan Police said at about 10 pm local time officers from the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command detained a man in Westminster Hall after a disturbance.
The incident took place just hours before, the Queen’s four children had stood vigil at her coffin.
