Real Madrid striker, Alvaro Morata has explained why he is joining Premier League Champions, Chelsea.
Morata touched down at Heathrow this morning ahead of his medical where he spoke to reporters.
When asked why he’s signing for Chelsea, the player said, “Because it’s the best club.
“Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches in the world and I’m so happy to work with Antonio.”
Manchester United wanted the striker earlier this summer but a deal failed to materialise, with Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton instead.
Morata refused to comment on the collapsed deal and is just excited to get started at Chelsea.
Asked why a move to United broke down, he said, “I don’t know. The most important thing is I am here, I’m playing for Chelsea. Finally I’m here.”
The striker however said he spoke to Chelsea defender and Spain team-mate Cesar Azpilicueta before agreeing to the move.
He added, “I spoke with Azpilicueta. He told me everything was OK here.”
