The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, for allegedly abusing and inflicting bodily injuries on her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of state.
The child was reportedly rescued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following the intervention of security person from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents who discovered the alleged abuse.
The woman was reportedly arrested following allegations that she inflicted injuries on the child with a hot knife over missing piece of meat.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Ikenga, the Command received a report in the evening of September 13 concerning alleged child abuse and serious bodily injuries involving the seven-year girl.
Preliminary information indicated that the child had allegedly suffered severe physical abuse, including injuries reportedly inflicted with hot knife.
Following the intervention of community security personnel and residents, the child was rescued from further harm, while her mother was arrested and police investigations commenced.
Police said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The police assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, professional, and uncompromising, stressing that the child’s safety, welfare, and best interests remained paramount.
