MTV institutes new award category, nominees include, Burna boy, Rema, others

The Organisers of the MTV Europe Music Awards have instituted a new ‘Best Afrobeats’ category in the 2023 edition.

The category was announced on Wednesday and included the 2023 MTV EMAs nominations.

The pioneer nominees of the category are Nigerian singers, Asake, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido and Rema and French superstar, Aya Nakamura.

Simultaneously, Rema’s featured banger with Selena Gomez ‘Calm Down’ was nominated in the ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ categories.

Burna Boy was nominated in the “Best Live Performer” alongside Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and others.

The 2023 MTV EMAs is scheduled to hold on November 5, 2023, in Paris, France.
