The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hope Uzodinma on Special Citizens, Charles Ebonuma, has called on Imo policymakers and stakeholders to give due consideration to his humble recommendations for people living with disabilities.

9News Nigeria reports that SSA Charles Ebonuma, has taken the bold stance in advocating for special post-subsidy palliatives to support people living with disabilities in Imo state Nigeria.

While speaking with 9News Nigeria (Owerri) Saturday, Hon. Ebonuma expressed readiness in seeking to address the unique challenges faced by this marginalized group with a strong commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities, and ensure that they receive the necessary support to thrive in society.

The Imo disability Boss, Ebonuma, stated that people living with disabilities in Imo State often encounter barriers that limit their access to essential services, educational opportunities, employment, and adequate social support systems.

However, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Citizens has set out several collaborations and Linkages with relevant government agencies, ministries, Philantropy groups and individuals which as soon as they are underway will address several key objectives to achieve this vision.

Firstly, it calls for targeted financial assistance programs to empower people living with disabilities economically. These programs could include grants for small businesses, vocational training initiatives, and job placement opportunities tailored to their specific needs and abilities.

In addition, Hon. Ebonuma stresses the importance of improving accessibility and infrastructure. Public infrastructure, including transportation, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions, should be made more disability-friendly.

By removing physical barriers, individuals with disabilities can lead more independent lives and actively participate in society. This advocacy also addresses the need for inclusive education, SSA Ebonuma maintained.

While speaking with the Press, he also called for the implementation of policies and programs that cater to the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This includes providing necessary resources, assistive technologies, and trained educators to ensure equal access to quality education.

Furthermore, it highlights the importance of strengthening social support systems for people living with disabilities. This involves expanding the availability and accessibility of healthcare services, offering counseling and mental health support, and establishing community-based initiatives that foster inclusion and social integration.

Hon. Charles Ebonuma’s advocacy is expected to yield numerous benefits for people living with disabilities in Imo State. It would enhance their quality of life, promote economic independence, and create a society that values their contributions.

In his words, “addressing the unique challenges of the disabilities, the proposal aims to break down barriers and provide equal opportunities for all.

“This advocacy for special post-subsidy palliatives for people living with disabilities will serves as a model for other regions and states, if well implemented. It will demonstrate a deep commitment to social justice and inclusivity, propelling Imo State towards a more equitable future.

As awareness and understanding of the needs of people living with disabilities continue to grow, it is hoped that policymakers and stakeholders will give due consideration to Hon. Ebonuma’s recommendations.

The SSA finally hinted that by working together, society can strive for a more inclusive and fair environment where no one is left behind mostly at this time when the presidency has dolled out N5 Naira subsidy palliative for Imo state.
