The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated fake and substandard wine of different brands worth over 100 million naira in Wuse market, one of the popular markets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The agency also uncovered a fake wine manufacturing outfit where substandard wines of different brands are being produced.

However, the manufacturer could not be arrested, as on having the information that NAFDAC enforcement team were in the market locked the outfit and ran away.

The Deputy Director, Investigation and Enforcement of NAFDAC, Shaba Mohammed, who led the team ordered the outfit to be forcefully opened and vowed that the owner will be fished out and taken to court.

Speaking with journalists during the enforcement operation on Friday, Mohammed said: “We are actually after counterfeit food products, particularly wine and it is under an operation call OpsonVI which is currently taking place in 60 countries of the world in collaboration with Interpol and Europol and Nigeria is a member.

“The finding is that we actually come across counterfeit and fake products in 4 different locations in large quantities.”
