Dist. Senator Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, President of the Senate of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), took NANS national officers, zonal leaders, state executives, campus leaders and students on a field inspection of federal road projects in Cross River State and the Benue/Cross River axis on [date]. The aim was for young Nigerians to see the work with their own eyes and give an honest verdict.
Projects Inspected
- Alesi–Ugep (Iyamoyung–Ugep) section in Cross River State
- Calabar Coastal Highway, Sections 3a/3b (Ch. 0+000 to Ch. 65+000), Cross River State section
- Adilikpo–Ajio–Teshe–Ada–Kyogen–Obudu Road (Benue/Cross River States)
The delegation found works executed to a commendable standard. Site crews showed discipline and technical competence, and each project showed steady, measurable progress. The Calabar Coastal Highway in particular stood out for its scale and ambition. The delegation observed that these roads will cut travel times, connect border communities, open farmlands and markets, and reduce accidents and hardship for the people who use them daily.
The Senate President commended the Federal Ministry of Works for the quality and professionalism on display, and called on it to maintain the pace until every project is completed and delivered.
On behalf of NANS and Nigerian students, he passed a vote of confidence in the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, for his hands-on leadership and results. He extended the same confidence to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his determination to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure.
NANS thanked President Tinubu for unlocking these regions to trade, investment, tourism and growth. The Senate President noted that the coastal and border corridors will create jobs, strengthen commerce between states, and give road users safer journeys, gains that will shape the future of Nigerian youth.
He thanked all participants and encouraged student leaders to keep watching public projects and offering constructive feedback. NANS remains committed to working with government to build a stronger, more connected Nigeria.
