Governance expert and public sector reform advocate, Dr. Joe Abah, OON, has linked many of the world’s wars, insurgencies, and terrorist activities to competition over natural resources.
Dr. Abah made this assertion on Saturday, emphasizing that beneath most modern conflicts lies a struggle for control over valuable resources.
“If you dig beneath most wars, insurgencies, and terrorist acts these days, you will find solid minerals, precious metals, oil, or gas,” he stated.
His remarks align with global reports highlighting how resource-rich regions often become hotspots for conflict, as various groups, including governments, corporations, and armed factions-compete for control.
From oil-driven conflicts in the Middle East to mineral-fueled insurgencies in parts of Africa and Latin America, analysts have long pointed to the role of natural wealth in exacerbating instability.
