The proposed establishment of the permanent site of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital at Akamili Umudim Nnewi, came as a welcome development as Nnewi hurriedly provided lands and waited for the move which never materialised for donkey years yet funds geared towards it directly and otherwise, were budgeted and released with absolutely nothing to show for it.
However, all has changed under the new administration led by Dr Joseph UGBAJA (Associate Prof), with the establishment of access roads in and around the premises but the most impressive, is the movement of a couple of major departments to the permanent site which also houses the state of the art medical center built by the Anambra Progressives and Development Union led by His Excellency, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, with more structures still needed.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital serves not just Nnewi but Anambra State and South Eastern Nigeria, as a result, it has played a major role in the overall GDP of Nnewi as well as providing Health Security to the community however, a lot needs to be done especially now that the new administration is determined to make the move to the permanent site and to identify with stakeholders within and outside the host town, a reality which is a major kudos to all involved.
Ndi Nnewi played a major role in converting Mburi General Hospital into NAUTH, which turned out to be a wise and remarkable decision/investment, so it is the best interest of Ndi Nnewi that the permanent site of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital gets the full support of Ndi Nnewi as it will guarantee jobs directly and otherwise for our teeming graduates as the host community, which will ensure zero vices in Nnewi as well as developing our Youths, increasing our GDP and adding value to the State and Nation.
