After 10 years of being suspended from legal practice, the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has lifted the ban it placed on Mr Worgu Boms.
Mr Boms was a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Rivers State, who served in the administration of Chibuike Amaechi.
The Port Harcourt NBA had suspended him in 2014 during that administration.
It was because of the crisis that erupted in Rivers State regarding the appointment of a Chief Judge.
Speaking on the lifting of the suspension, a past secretary of the branch, Mr Soseipiriye Long Williams commended the leadership of the branch under Sir Viktor Benibo for the action.
Mr Williams, who was also a former Governor of the Eastern Bar Forum, said the leadership led by Benibo had demonstrated political will in resolving the lingering issue.
He wondered why previous administrations lacked the courage to lift the suspension on Mr. Boms.
Mr Williams said the suspension was unreasonably extended and the decision to lift it was long overdue.
He noted that the bold step as demonstrated by the branch, the internal wound would have been healed.
Mr. Boms is now free to resume his full privileges as a member of the Port Harcourt branch of the NBA.
