The Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary (NBTS), Ogbomoso, founded in 1898 by Dr. C.E. Smith, is recognized as the first degree-awarding institution in Nigeria. Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the USA in 1948, it began awarding Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) degrees in 1950.
Administrative, chapel-library, and classroom buildings, presently used by the Seminary, were first occupied in 1955.
The Seminary became a postgraduate school with effect from 2002.
It is the oldest degree-awarding institution in Nigeria and currently offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master, Doctorate levels in Theology, Missiology, Education, and Church Music. The seminary is accredited by ACTEA and BACTSIN.
The institution has maintained a continuous, stable presence in Ogbomoso for over a century, providing training in theology, Christian education and Church music.
