NDLEA arrested 454 suspects in 1 year -Adamawa Commander

The Adamawa State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has arrested a total of 454 suspects between June 2023 and June 2024.

Disclosing this at the weekend during a press briefing organised by NDLEA to commemorate the International Drug Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Yola, The State Commander Agbaolu Femi Samson, said the arrests includes 447 makes and 7 females.

Samson further explained that “Our drug seizures have significantly increased with a total of 4732.128kg of hard drugs confiscated, 975 increase from the 1164.750kg seized between June 2022 and June 2023”.

These seizure, açcording to him, include a range of substances such as Cannabis Sativa, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Tramadol, Exol-5, Diazepam tablets, Codeine base syrup, Rohypnol tablets and Pentazocine injections among others.

“Our Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) efforts have also been fruitful, 107 residential clients treated, counseled and rehabilitated and 222 trafficking clients receiving brief intervention counseling”, he stressed.

The State Commander further explained that on June 11, NDLEA team and personnel from the Army conducted a successful operation based on intelligence report apprehended one Nura Mohammed also known as “Haske” in Ngurore.

During the operation, a total of 32 ash coloured bag containing compressed blocks of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The contents of these bags amounted to 1,898 blocks, weighing a total of 1,861kg, equivalent to 1.9 tonnes, saying these relentless efforts had cut off the supply of illicit drugs into Adamawa State.

He called on citizens to join hands in the fight against drug abuse, adding that:

“We should work together to create a future where our children can grow up in safe, healthy and drug free communities”
