The Vicar, Holy Trinity Anglican church Nekede Owerri Imo State Nigeria has thanked the Almighty God for the success of a well attended “Trinity Day” Celebration held Sunday 30th day of July 2023.
Ven. Duke Okere while thanking the Members of Holy Trinity Anglican Church for trooping out en-masse to support the anniversary, he extended his gratitude to the invited guests, special guests of honour and the clergy.
In a special way, Holy Trinity Anglican Church in one voice recognized the revered position of their Bishop in whose honour and permission the event became successful.
The church is therefore using this medium to send across their heartfelt appreciation to His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey E. Okorafor, Bishop of Egbu Diocese and Mrs Ngozi Chioma Okorafor (Mama Egbu) for celebrating the day with them.
In the intercessory prayer, Rev Chigozie Ibe called on God to grant the church of God all over the world and Nigeria in particular, the deserving unity and strength to continue in God’s will.
He also prayed that God will safe every member of Holy Trinity Church and their respective families to overcome the pressing season of insecurity and hard times bedevilling the country.
In a sermon titled, “My Labour, Your Labour will no be in vain”, Rev. Canon OC Anyasodo advised the church to continue in their goodwill and be rest assured that the works and Labours of the people of God all over the world can never be in vain or be forgotten.
Drawing his biblical reference from Luke Chapter 12 and 1Corianthians 15:58, Canon Anyasodo also charged the political leaders to as a matter of urgency heed to the call of salvaging the country through proper legislation and quality governance while warning them of the looming dangers that will definitely befall bad leaders.
The clergy prayed for the souls of the departed saints of Holy Trinity Anglican church Nekede including all their donors, workers and supporters who in any little measure has helped to bringing the church to this height.
Recall that the inception of Church Missionary Society (CMS) in Nekede @1910 by Archdeacon T.J Dennis, church services and class meetings were held in Chief Nkwazema’s compound of now Umualum Nekede ancient kingdom.
In 1915, there was secession, which is formal withdrawal from the central church at Nkwazema’s compound Umualum to form Emmanuel Church Umualum, St Silas Church Umudibia and St John’s Church Umuoma with respective church teacher who were called church agents then.
Our correspodent gathered that three religious schools were established in each of the three Churches located at various communities which has now respective autonomous status as recognized by law.
Being faced with enormous challenges and responsibilities, in 1942, the three Churches were merged and dedicated as Holy Trinity Anglican Church Nekede until it became an Archdeaconry in 1996.
Despite the spread of more Anglican Churches in Nekede which are offshoots of Holy Trinity Anglican Church Nekede, the Trinity Day Celebration is still existing with it’s gracious unifying effects.
At the time of filling this report by Ambassador Princely Onyenwe- 9News Nigeria (Owerri), Nekede has recorded numerous indigenous Priests, Catechists/Church Teachers, Lay readers, Knights and Dames both past and serving.
The Majority Leader of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi was ably represented by Hon Sabinus Ogbonna who made his presentation to the church and the Nekede people at large.
The Trinity Day Celebration was garnished with rendition from HTC AYF and Choir, Cutting of Cake and Posthumous recognition on Sir Emmanuel Obinnaya Onyenwe MBA MNIM, JP KSC, Late PA Ononuogbo, RO Onyenobi, Sir HC Mela amongst others.
Awards of Honour on some Nekede Diasporians who have been serving in various capacities of the Church, and in extension helping humanity and society to include, Dr (Oha) Geoffrey Onyeukwu, Henry Uroegbulam Eke KSC, Hon Kems Obichere, Prince Sabastine Eke and others.
The Vicar, had earlier stressed on the need for christians all over the world to keep the work of God alive and blessed the HTC church and their guests for the massive support the gave at the service while noting that Holy Trinity Anglican Church has clocked 83Years old, from 1940-2023.
The Year 2023 Trinity Day anniversary planning committee members are, Sir James Njoku, Nnanna Achodo, Lady Gloria Opara, Lady Charity Onyenwe, Rev Duke Okere (Vicar), Dame Eunice Onyeledo, Sir Onyekpandu Nwaneri, Amb Princely Onyenwe, Rev Chigozie Ibe, Mrs Chika Duke Okere, Mrs Chinwendu Ibe, Lady Ijeoma Azuike, Mrs Regina Nnadi, Mrs Irene Opara, Ifeoma Chikezie, Lolo Beatrice Onyeukwu, Mrs Esther Ejiogu, Tochukwu Freeman Opara, Mrs Ogechi Nwauzor, Prince Obinna Okorocha, Engr Okere Blessing and Mr Ugochukwu Olekaibe.
The event featured alot of dignitaries and array of clergy who witnessed the event. Traditional Ruler of Umuoma Nekede Autonomous community, HRH Eze Morrison Soronnadi Eke-PhD, Evangelist Bethran Uzodinma, Nze Sir Obinna Aharanwa, Sir Lister Okpe, Hon Sabinus Ogbonna and other dignitaries too numerous to mention as reported by 9News Nigeria (Owerri) .
