VOLUNTEER NGOs ON GROUND IN ILE IFE TO SUPPORT THE OONI’S 5TH CORONATION ANNIVERSARY

As part the activities lined up to mark the fifth coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) in partnership with the palace have commenced a four-day free health care service for the residents of Ile-Ife in Osun State.

The health care service was organised to lecture women on how to prevent and control urinary tract infection (UTI) and to provide free counseling and distribution of eye-glasses to the people.

In an interaction with 9News Nigeria, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the founder of the Kinectic Inclusive Health Initiative (KIHI), Dr. Adewumi Ayodele stated “We are partnering with others to organise a free mega health care for the elderly people. In occasions like this, the elderly people are usually treated at home as a result of lack of energy, but this time around we want to make sure they are given adequate attention and to let them feel the impact of being members of the community”.

Dr. Adewumi explained that his team was targeting about 3000 beneficiaries for the free health care service before the project’s conclusion on Monday. The medical practitioner also stated that anti-malaria and other drugs for treatment of worms, diabetes will be dispensed to the beneficiaries while the exercise lasted.

“We are also going to examine the condition of their eyes before we issue them new eye glasses. You know that it is one of the challenges during old age. We are also going to give out prescription lenses to those who would need them”, he submitted.

Similarly, an Environmental Toxicologist and Biomodial Scientist, Dr. Eseoghene Ebunoluwa Okodiya who anchored the lecture on the Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) explained to 9News Nigeria that “the essence of the lecture was specifically to enlighten the women on the issue of the urinary tract infections and to educate them on how to prevent it.

Dr. Okodiya maintained that the causes of the problem are in relation to child birth and through sexually transmitted diseases. “We have been able to enlighten the Women on the dangers of washing their vigina with soap. A lot of them have been told that the practice is a wrong philosophy and this lecture is an eye opener”.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with our correspondent expressed their appreciation to the organisers and used the opportunity to felicitate with Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi on his fifth Coronation Anniversary praying that God will continue to bless and protect him on the throne.
