These are the updated list of the victims who lost their lives in the Kaduna Airport Airforce plane crash that killed the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Armed Forces, General Attahiru Ibrahim together with a number of his officers and aides.

The Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Armed Forces, General Attahiru Ibrahim, has been killed in an air crash together with a number of his officers and aides.

This is a monumental tragedy and a big blow to our nation.

Information reaching 9News Nigeria was that the army boss was on a routine tour with some of his aides before the plane crash landed few hours ago in Kaduna.

An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport.

The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained at the time of this report but the gallant officers on board have been identified as written:

  2. BRIG GEN MI ABDULKADIR.
  3. BRIG GEN OLAYINKA.
  4. BRIG GEN KULIYA.
  5. MAJ LA HAYAT.
  6. MAJ HAMZA.
  7. SGT UMAR.

Our source told us that the crashed military Beachcraft 350 aircraft boarded the chief of Army staff and his aides before it land crashed at the Kaduna International Airport at about 18,05 hrs on Friday 21-05-2021.

Recall that Mr Attahiru was recently appointment army chief by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Until his appointment in January, he was the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.

With service number 8406, he was a member of Regular Course 35 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

At a time, he was the Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole until he was sacked in 2017 for alleged incompetence.

The most pertinent was that under his watch, suicide bombings and attacks on military formations were on the rise.

Also the House of Representatives Committee on Army have sent in an open release signed by Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas,
Committee Chairman on the passing of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.

The details reads:

The House of Representatives Committee on Army receives with shock the news of the sudden death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, which occurred in an air incident in Kaduna on Friday.

Lt.-Gen. Attahiru was an energetic officer, who was committed to improving the security of the country, especially prosecuting the war against insurgency.

In his brief stay in office as the COAS, the late Attahiru had a rolled-out plan on how to defeat Boko Haram and bring under control, other security threats, which the country faced in recent years.

The committee notes that it is unfortunate that Lt.-Gen. Attahiru did not live to see to the successful execution of his counter-terrorism strategies.

The Committee commiserates with the Nigerian Army, his immediate family and the Federal Government over this untimely incident, and prays the Almighty God to grant his soul and the souls of all other passengers, who died in the air mishap, eternal rest.

The Committee urges the hierarchy of the Nigerian Army and all gallant officers and men to remain focused and re-commit themselves to the task of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

May their souls rest in peace & may God help Nigeria.
