Elder statesman and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has called on the Federal government of Nigeria to restructure the country ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He said this would enable the country move forward.
According to the elder statesman, restructuring the country before next year’s general elections should be a priority of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
Iwuanyanwu made these observations in Awka on Thursday at the maiden public lecture of the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, where he spoke on the theme: ‘Restructuring Education in Nigeria to meet the Economic and Social Challenges’.
The business mogul said the restructuring of the country was more important at this point than the 2019 general elections.
Speaking on the rot in the education sector, Iwuanyanwu lamented that failure of the education sector in the country had given him cause for concern.
According to him, “Our educational system as conceived in the past was white collar job oriented, our current educational curriculum does not balance theoretical training with requisite skill acquisition to make graduates self reliant.
“It is clear that there is immediate and urgent need to restructure our education system, if it must fulfill the basic goal and objectives of a good educational system in modern world.”
