Sulley Muntari has said although he is happy with calls for him to return to the Ghana national team, he is currently focused on helping Hearts of Oak finish the season strongly.

There has been an intense campaign for Muntari to return to the Black Stars ahead of the 2022 World Cup play-offs against Nigeria later this month.

The 37-year-old, after grabbing an assist two weeks ago against Legon Cities, scored his first goal for the club as they beat WAFA 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s game, the former AC Milan and Inter star, when asked about Black Stars return, replied: “I’m pleased but the most important thing is Hearts of Oak now.

“I came in, I got the chance to play for the club, it’s a big team here, the guys are amazing, coach and the staff also. So, I am very pleased to be here and also the fans are making things right, I’m home and it’s just joy to be here.

Muntari last played for Ghana in 2014. He was sent home from the Black Stars’ camp during the World Cup in Brazil for physically attacking management member, Moses Armah.
